65 Gallon Build (First Tank)

lol I got Krylon Fusion used it to paint the back black and for the piping in the overflow box, got lazy with the return elbows as I still want to put some locline on it maybe.. I'll get around to it,

Thanks for the comments!

Well I think I'm done everything now with the setup, just now sitting back and playing the waiting game :) quick question should I start running GFO and Carbon right now.. or is it kind of pointless...

I've been looking for Krylon Fusion everywhere. Where did you buy it? Also, what version of lighting did you buy and where. Your tank is looking great!! I'm thinking I'm can start setting my bow front 90 in about a week or so. Then I get to do what you did. So many nice setups on here to look at.

Well... seeing that your from Sacramento I dont think you boys south of the border got the same store that I got it from.. It's called "Canadian Tire" lol but try checking out a Home Depot or Lowes or whatever you have down there. I got the ATI Powermodule 6x39W from a local dealer here as well so sorry I couldn't be of much help,

You can see how the light looks on the pics on pg 3 so far I'm loving it

It looks great. I'll see if Marine Depot has it. As for the paint, Lowe's and Home Depot discontinued selling it here in my area. Rustolem has something that is suppose to be as good so I guess I'll have to give that a try. Thanks and keep up the great work.

So i'm not to happy with the coralife skimmer at the moment, I know its known to overflow at times.. I left to school in the morning saw the skimmer collection cup was about 1cm full, thought thats fine no need to clean it out.. come back home to it overflowing luckly its in the sump so water didnt go everywhere except back into the tank.

What causes a skimmer to overflow? Water level didnt change in the sump.. temp constant no new additions at all tank is still cycling..

Are you treating your tank with anything or adding trace elements? I know my skimmer puts out a lot of wet skimmate since I',m adding a lot of TEs. Some even tell me to turn off the skimmer when I ad in the different elements.

This would make for a good argument to have an over flow tube that should the water level gets too high, it has somewhere to go.

Any and all sorts of things. Changes in surface tension of the water, changes in atmospheric pressure, etc. These changes will depend upon the skimmer as far as what effect they may have. Some don't respond too much to these, whereas others react far more than they should. It is because of their finicky nature that I don't like Coralife's skimmers. I don't know what your budget is, but you may want to consider Reef Octopus skimmers, as far as bang for the buck. Their Octopus Extreme models work very well, in fact, and are very reasonably priced in light of comparable models of other brands.

I see, well I'm trying to save up as much as I can which is hard when your a broke university student lol, but I'm looking at maybe a Deltec or Tunze I'd like something thats has a smaller footprint as my sump isn't the biggest, also with my skimmer overflowing and all of the skimate going back into the tank how much of a negative effect am I looking at..
