6x9 speaker installing?

they make adaptors for 6x9 to fit in 5x7 mounting holes .. im not sure were they can be found tho i used to have some..they was made of plastic and held the speaker into the hole and at an upward angle
ill have to try and find some of these. the car is an old 88 taurus for those wondering. the 6x9s are going on the rear deck behind the back seats. the doors are gonna have 6s in them, so ill have to find a way to mount them.

i've seen adaptor plates to go the other way...put a 5x7 in a hole sized for a 6x9...but to put a 6x9 in a hole meant for a 5x7, the speaker would have to end up sticking out substantially further than the stock setup.

yes that site has gone down hill and even reached the depths of hell. A bunch of kids with attitudes and most have little knowledge.

Yep, sometimes I will go there looking for something and literally see a page of deleted threads and the moderator reason will be "Just because" and stupid stuff like that.

DIY Mobile Audio is a far more knowledgeable site, but like I said a lot of them have an elitist attitude and if you are not spending a ton of money don't really want to know.

Kind of hard to find a decent car audio website.

For 6x9 into 5x7 try http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=1293

FWIW, I cut out the rear deck of my old GTI when I was in high school and dropped in 6x9s cause I thought it would be cool to have big speakers back there. After a while I found that 6x9s are a bit overrated, they were decent, but you can get great speakers that will give you as much volume and better sound that will fit in the factory locations if you look around, and its a lot less work. Unless all you want is people to see "wow there's 6x9s dropped into holes in the back of that car..hella custom y0".

you can experiment with it, like stated before, the riser plate doesn't have to be too high depending on the size and shape speaker... But you do still raise the speaker over its stock height and may not get it looking like it was from factory...

yo ! lol I agree get a good quality speaker that fits the hole measure the depth of the hole the look online at speakers the will tell you the depth needed.

the 5x7 to 6x9 adapter looks like it would do the job. i found these ones here. but they seem a little costly compared to other adapters i had seen, but these are the only 5x7 to 6x9 adapters ive found yet. have you guys found anything?

hate to say it but that taurus does not have 5x7 spkrs in it. Ford has used 6x8s in the rear deck for over 20(+) yrs. You may want to look at metraonline.com. however I would as mentioned before and by others, cut the hole out to fit the 6x9s. If you mount the 6x9s in a smaller hole you can limit the sound kind of like putting your hand in front of your mouth while talking.

i measured the speakers when i took them out, and they measured at 5x7, but i can can check again. and with the adapter i showed in the posts above, raises the speaker a bit, and makes it fit, there will be baffles behind them.
