70gal Paludarium/Vivarium Build

I actually lucked out (I had planned on ordering mine from MG too...) and a LFS had a whole shoal of 'em for like $6 a pop. I'm going to take my parents remaining three loaches in about two weeks to bring the shoal to about ten.

That's got to be one of the best deals I've seen for them. I'm beyond jealous!

Thanks, I almost felt like I should have bought more just because of the price haha. I believe I still have all seven; I usually only see three or four at a time and its hard to get an accurate count of the little buggers as they dart around the tank. It's kinda cool watching three or four of them come out from the background/wood and school around with the Odessa barbs.

*EDIT* It looks like this post is going through, some kind of server error prevented my last update from being posted. I plan on adding the last three dwarf chain loaches in two weeks (I have to tear apart the tank they will come from to catch the buggers) and then the shoal will be complete at 10 I guess... It is just so tempting to pick up a few more at $6. The first week I added them my barbs were pretty skittish; now both species hang out and beg for food. Its funny because if I tease them enough and get the barbs into a little frenzy I can get some of the loaches to come up from the bottom to pick off flakes from the surface. I am considering buying a few pinhead crickets and throwing them in the tank to add some more realistic food besides the current diet of live blackworms, frozen brine shrimp, and OSI flakes.

I wanted a bigger centerpiece fish but I think the ones I like will either be too big/bossy (red tailed black shark) or get nipped (snakeskin gourami or paradise fish). After a few more months maybe I'll just add a filter feeding wood shrimp and call it good.

Plants are starting to grow like crazy... and unfortunately the diatoms are continuing to flourish as well. I keep hoping to see them starting to trail off one of these weeks. Maybe I'll get a couple SAE's....front111613.JPG

These last few pics on this post show the Riparium Supply rafts, a closeup of some Java Moss on wood, and another unknown type of moss growing in the tank. The other closeup of moss/plants is from another tank of mine that I have had setup for about six years. The moss covering is quite extensive, I just wish I knew what kind it was... I got it from a secret source that I am no longer in contact with.

No camera at the moment, but I have flowers on my Hygrophila! They are a light blueish/purple; it takes probably about two weeks for the buds to bloom. I'll try to get some pics one of these days.

Pics I snapped real quick today. The flowers are on my Hygro growing on the trellis; it's been growing emersed for maybe two months? I also recently did a massive trim, so some of my trellis plants are lookin a tad small.Hygroflower 01114.JPGhygroflower2 011114.JPGmosslog01114.JPGtankfront011114.JPG
