I was going to quote and reply to the ruder messages, but there were too many so I dumped and will just make a general response. You guys were nicer to me, and I had 6 5in goldfish in a dirty 30 gallon tall with a crappy filter... AND was getting/planning to get more fish... sheesh... be nice, rudeness never got anyone anywhere. Now, on to the important stuff.

Actually, many Synos are actually aggressive to one another, such as S. eupterus and S. angelicus. Upside down catfish are an exception, along with some other Synos.

Ritap, you do read about the fish you purchase, right? It's really helpful when selecting fish to just do a Google search for the scientific name, and pick the hits from the most reliable websites, like Planet Catfish. I really like this website for profiles: http://www.seriouslyfish.com/

Taking people's word for things is not really the best way to learn. Rather, read from books or websites first, and then take people's experiences and observations as supporting info. Books and websites will give you the most general consensus as to how to care for a fish. Most profiles talk about compatibility. It is well known that Corydoras and dwarf cichlids are not compatible, because they don't stay out of the territory of these bottom hugging fish. It may work for some people, especially if the fish aren't paired and they have a lot of room, but once breeding behaviors start up they are going to get hurt.

For example, people feed pacus meaty foods all the time, because they look like piranhas. In reality, their teeth are made for vegetable chomping and they should be fed a vegetarian diet. A quick Google and browsing WEBSITES (not comments on forums) that have reliable, professional info will tell you that right away.

It's hard to believe anyone would pay $120 for those sorry looking fish. Hope your deal goes through, although I would be feeling unethical about it...

+1, wish I had read up on some of the fish I used to have... for example, did you know that wild catfish will grow up and eat koi? I didn't until I woke up and found a tank with 2 less koi and 2 fat catfish...

or an overstocking/feeding problem...

Ah, pessimism.... your best friend, it seems. The Mafia Ban hasn't been good to you, has it? Personally, I didn't know that green algae fed on fish food, I thought it fed on the lighting, but that's just me...

Fishboss, if it proves to be harder then expected getting it off the glass, use an old card, like a gift card or credit card (I used an old McDonalds Gift Card). Elbow grease and a card work wonders.

but isnt the point to seprate the two. i dont think a pair of any kind of dwarf cichlid should have another bottom dweller with it.

what i meant was rams into a tank, and then the corys into a DIFFERENT tank;)
sorry for mis understanding

thx man;)

for the algae, its a breeze taking it off, i leave lots on the back panel for my plecos, and other fish in case they are hungry, and the front panel is ez as pie once i find my mag float, i think i put it on my 20G (as its stronger than my small one);)

The mesh as a divider should work fine, lots of articles on DIY dividers if you Google. The trick is to find something sturdy, yet flexible to work as a "frame" for your mesh.

thx, I'll search it up, the only problem i am having is how to keep it upright/straight as when its framed its strung tight, but i can screw it into my tank
still brainstorming

You can use a clamp on either side of each end. So it would look like this in profile, with the ^s being clamps and the | being the divider. This would really only work on an open topped tank, though!

^|^

I guess you could also use magnets on the inside and outside of the glass?

Excess food creates excess phosphates and nitrates, equaling algae growth. So you know.

Learn somethin new every day! I'm glad for it, this world would get boring if I knew everything, no unexpected surprises. Thanks for the info.

the mags are a good idea:)
thx, i didn't think of those

most of my tanks are open topped, but it all works out, i have still to see a fish jump out, i think my fish are happier in water, than belly flopping on land:)

yeah, it would, see, i learned about the cichlids and bottom dwellers even though they were getting along great;)

so, my water isn't crystal clear, i do have this eheim polishing pad, but it doesn't seem to be working, there are tons of small particles which are VISIBLE to the naked eye which look nasty, it looks as if there is lots of junk in the water, i need something to help?
