8" ciclid in 20 gal.

Wow hold on there, to the people suggesting a 55g tank for a tiger, the width of a 55g tank is about what? 12 inches? And the length of a tiger as an adult as around 18 inches? I wouldn’t recommend anything smaller than a 75g for those guys primarily on that fact, they just have too hard of a time turning around in a narrow tank like that. 125g tank would be the optimum tank for these fish.

Most Oscars wont get over 14in in an aquarium. A 75 is minimum for a Oscar and has no place in a 20g. I agree, even a 55g is too small for a full grown Oscar.

8 inch oscar in a 20 gallon tank?

:eek3:

I'd have to suggest a 90 or above for this fish.

BUT a 20 gallon is outta the question. Shellies would be cramped in that!
ljx:confused:

this thread is totally old.

Actually, it's a month and ten days old. ;) But I agree, there hasn't been too much to talk about in the cichlid section recently, nothing like an Oscar in a 20G to liven up the discussion LOL.
Duh I am a month behind...lol that means I am a month younger.

To the original poster....did you get the fish re-homed or get it a bigger house?

I've had it too long to give it up.
:eek3:Then if you love him care for him in the right way. he is stunted if he is 3 years old and 8 inches. I had one that grew more then 8 inches in a year ! Give him to a good home and get some small fish for that small tank, or spend the money and get him a big tank. I'm sure all he can do is look out the glass how sad to know he can not swim to far and is locked in one tiny tank :(

this is the goldfish bowl syndrome.............. put a comet in a 1gal goldfish bowl......... i would have thought by now in a society for humane animal treatment in the usa and people hugging trees, that there would be a difference by now.............all the more need for further education in schools pertaining to animals and husbandry........ i do my part as one of my duties as an HLE sergeant fish department, i go to local schools and educate on aquarium fish husbandry and the difference i make will continue the hobby for the future.....
