A discussion for folks who use paypal

I see more and more people (okay, like, three :)) asking in their ad for people to "use paypal and mark as gift." Aside from being dishonest when in actual fact it is a payment for goods, I don't think the PP folks got to be where they are by being stupid.

If they catch you they will cancel and/or freeze your paypal account, which may include not letting you remove money you have "stored" with them. They are a New Thing as far as the law is concerned: not a bank, so they are not subject to laws governing banks; not a credit card so not covered by those laws either. They can do whatever they d*mn well want and there is no legal recourse for the user.

I like paypal and use it often. But people should be aware of what can be involved. Or to put FF's words in a cruder acronym, RTFM. :)

I, myself, will not accept gift payments. If you send it to me as a gift, I take it as such and say thanks! The fees associate wiht paypal are small. You get a decent discount from printing your labels through paypal (more htan what the fees are) and free delivery confirmation (.80 or whatever PER label). I see absolutely no reason to skirt the fees. I also don't think that you are able to file disputes from personal payments.
The only time I use personal payment is when I am paying soming money I owe them, from a personal transaction. Then I use "payment owed" under hte personal setting. For instance, if they bought something for me that is already in my posession or I am picking up from them I do payment owed becasue there is no shipping label being produced nor a chance of an issue. Its personal!
The other issue with gift payments is there is not an address provided. Adds more steps for the seller to make the label and ship. I don't know about most sellers, but the convenience of not having ot look up an address is worth the paltry fees they charge me.

As for accrued expenses, shipping supplies, etc. I just do flat shipping rates for priority. Sometimes I make a little, most often I break even, sometimes I underestimate. For me, it all comes out in the wash. I dont' feel the need to charge a box, supply, heat pack, etc fee. I would rather those things not be optional. If it ever comes to the point where I am too busy to make my own inserts and have to buy foam lined boxes, I will have to charge for them as they are NOT cheap.

As Mgamer pointed out, it is against their rules.

And I agree with everything msjinkzd stated. But I do charge for a heat pack if needed rather than include it in the whole shipping cost.
