Aaaaaarrrrgghh Computers, why are they not just plug and go?

Oops, no, what I did was connect up the Virgin router to get the username and password going so my new internet connection was live.

I then took that router away, disconnected it all.

After that I connected the wireless router back up. Thought it would just work. The laptop sees the wireless connection but doesn't let me connect to internet.

cool Niko!...wow your very helpful, i really appreciate it, just got through to technical line and he told me to

1. go onto internet explorer and type in IP address 192.168.0.1

2. log in using username 'admin' and leave password blank

3. put in the settings he has just emailed me

4. if I still have probs he has given me D-Link number 0845 612 0003

5. he then said if I still had problems he heard about some salty guy I could phone called Niko or something!!!
 
Ohhh...and to answer your opening post title question " Aaaaaarrrrgghh Computers, why are they not just plug and go? " ....If they were that easy, people like me would be outta a job...LOL....

Its a conspiracy you know.... ;)
 
Mine is...plug and go....Apple imac all the way :D get with the times microsoft stooges :D

Also, another simple answer...because then life would be too easy
 
I don't know if this will help you, but with my cable provider I have to use the mac address clone feature of my lynksys router for my computers mac address for my internet provider to let me use it at all.. I don't know if yours locks in the mac address of your new router when you logged on and entered your password or not. If you have that feature I'd give that a try.

Why? Because I also had to sign on blah blah blah and it logged the mac address of my pc nic card. So I have to plug that mac address into my router so my cable modem will recognize me on the network. It could have done the same with your router.. Once you logged on with the new one which If I remember correctly it worked and you were on the net at that point it logged that mac address with the old router it is an different mac address so it is blocking access.

But I don't even know if your D-Link has that feature or not.. But if it does its worth a shot.
