I'm setting up a new tank and using Eco Complete for the first time. Do any of you rinse it? I know it says there's no need to rinse on the package but it feels odd not to rinse something I'm putting in a tank. Kind of like wearing dirty socks. :)

I have it in a 75 & did not rinse it. Eco (at least mine) has a lot of fine particles & I didn't want to wash away much of my expensive substrate.

I'm not sure how much it speeded up cycling as I did a variation of the "silent" cycle with lots of plants for several weeks. I added some used filter media before I put in fish. I never saw any ammonia or nitrite spikes & should dose macros more than I do, very low nitrates at best.

Thanks for the quick replies! I haven't opened it up yet (still soaking the driftwood for a few more days) so I can't see how fine it is.

I agree, don't rinse it. Its packaged in some liquid, so it will just pour right out of the back and not be dusty. Rinsing it would be rinsing some nutrients away IMO. :)

My experience has been that the new tank will be cloudy. I turned off the filter to allow all the small stuff to settle (if it gets caught in the filter, I might as well have rinsed it). A couple water changes later the tank was looking mighty sharp (I have never set up a tank and not had to a couple water changes to get clear water, probably my impatience).
