Absolute DISASTER with neons

Any pics of your facilities? TO set up such operations, should have proper facilities thus can avoid such mishap with neons and are more likely to happen with transhipping but can be avoided when one has proper equipments.

I guess thinking about S/W tranship as well in near future?

My husband is in the middle of making me some 18' long, 3 tiered racks. I have a large linear pump for my filters. I won't be doing central filtration, just using sponges or corner filters for the tanks. The room is heated, though special species have heaters. We are getting ready to add 4x75g, 4x55g, and a row of 20 longs for individual species qt. I hope to have this accomplished within the next few months. Right now each tank has individual filtration, but its a whole mish-mash. The streamlined stands and linear pumps will really help things out.
The import tanks will be largely bare tanks with sponge filters and limited lighting.
I do not have plans for sw :)
 
very much like when I started my fish room some 20+ yrs ago.
How about building as staggered rack not flushed. Eventually I used nothing but 33G long tank on the racks some with permanent divers and some with temporary divers but all drilled at least two holes either on the back or bottom for draining purpose. Sure beats carrying buckets or using pump to drain. This was to use as acclimating/holding newly arrived.
As far as holding mated pair of species tank I used to used 10G, drilled also, onthe rack but side ways so I can stack more.
You might want to consider big air pump with either 1-1/4" to 2" PVC pipe for areation all around the rack above the highest tank to provide outlet for all tanks.
You can also centralize system hooled up but no need to be running on all the tank. You can have few local sump systems when needed.

Definitely apply some vapor barriers on the ceiling to protect the joists.

I think between the anitbiotics and metro food you should have all the possible issues covered. You gave your best, and that's all you could do.
 
no losses at all in hatchets, otos, or contaminants (pencilfish and tetras). The course of antibiotics is finished. They are all eating like gangbusters and schooling around. Very vital. Think I should do the metro food regardless?
 
I don't think it could hurt Rach, even if just a mix....let me know when you feel it is safe to ship me some of the oto and hatchets.
 
I honestly have lost less than 6 of both since they came in. They have never been symptomatic. I did treat for external parasites and now the antibiotics. I am going to do a big water change today to remove the rest of hte meds. Waiting on my metro powder to get here (dang thanksgiving). I think they are probably fine, but rather safe than sorry.
 
Rachel - It still pains me to have to think of this disaster but I was wondering if you had any recent updates? I know you had said you lost most of the neons; are there enough to fill orders? I know you started out with almost 1,000. :( And I reckon you'll be ordering neons ever again? I'm not in any rush for the fish I ordered. I just finished battling ick in the tank the fish were supposed to go in so I'm waiting for things to settle down. I hope everything is okay. :)
 
Wow, i have been emailing you all week...but to the wrong username. I didn't realize the "53" was on the end. I am now panicking officially.


The other fish are all doing well. I lost the majority of the neons. I purchased cardinals from a friend of mine (they have been in a tank for 2 months and are super nice) to fulfill the orders that i took. They are en route and I hope this totally doesn't screw you.
