Ace25's 75G Build Thread

Thanks Ace... Why do you use the timer and not just take the shot?

What is this called that is in the yellow circle?

I use the timer because the simple act of pressing the button on the camera will shake it, even on a tri-pod, and when taking closeup/macro pictures even the slightest movement will make the picture blurry. So I use the timer and back away from the camera.

Those are ORA Duncans.. I bought them at a frag show in Oakland back in May of 08. I paid $80 for 8 heads (ORA charges LFS $175 for 7 heads!) and now I have about 35-40 heads on it. They are an LPS coral like a frogspawn/torch coral, easy to take care of in comparison to SPS corals.

Here is a picture of them when I first got them.

I guess I should start using my remote trigger to take shots with. That is a cool looking Duncans. I've got to see if my LFS can get me one. Nice photos.

Ya, if you have a remote trigger I guess you wouldn't need the timer. ;) I don't have one of those obviously.

With Duncans.. there are ORA, which are VERY green, then there are normal ones that are almost white. Here is a picture from a member in my reefclub that just bought some "Wild" Duncans 2 days ago. I had to have the ORA Green version.

Is there anything like this in like a neon blue or green that has a lot of wave motion? I want some things that move with the water's flow motion.

Nothing in blue that I know of.. that would be really cool looking. I have only seen the "standard white/green tint" ones and the ORA Green ones (but not really Neon green). They definately "sway" and move around quite a bit in the flow.. pretty much the only coral in my tank that can do that since it is mainly SPS corals.. closest SPS coral to show water movement would be a millepora since its polyps usually extend quite a bit.

The problem with having an SPS tank is the flow is very strong.. too strong for most LPS corals. I had to give away my frogspawn and hammer coral because of it. Only the Duncans can hold up to the strong flow in my tank. Blastomusso and Acan corals also hold up well for LPS corals in high flow tanks, but they do not move like Duncans or frogspawns.

For something green that REALLY stands out, get a Neon Green toadstool leather.

Is it possible to get one part of your tank to have a lot of flow while the other area somewhat less? Besides fish moving around I like the waving of the soft corals. What types are fast growing? Thanks for that photo.

Of course.. it all depends on how you place powerheads. With SPS corals, it is really the Acroporas the need the high flow (the stick looking corals), which is what I am into now. If you don't do those types of corals then lower flow/low flow areas are definately possible. On my tank, since it is only 30" long and 24" deep there isn't a whole lot of playing room to make different flow areas, but if you had a 4' tank or longer it is much easier to do. That is why you see in my pictures the Neon Green toadstool is located right in the bottom front of my tank, the one place that has the least amount of flow.. and still, those little polyps on it do get moved around quite a bit.. but not enough to harm it.

Where is a good place to learn more about the corals you've mentioned above?

Nice
