Ace25's 75G Build Thread

Love those rose bubbles ace, and just like to say sorry to here about your tank. That tank looked great then and i think it will look even better this time round.

Hey Ace what kind of toadstool is that with the rtba? I have a Tyree green polyp toadstool and was told it would not get to big, if it got as big as that it would be great.

Yup, exact same one, Tyree Neon Green and yes, they do get as big as any other leather, just takes 4x as long as they are slower growers than something like a Fiji yellow leather.

Ok great thanks

This is what it looked like when I bought it about a year and a half ago. About the same size as a frag plug for $45.

Yeah i got mine a few months ago, is was bigger then the frag plug. I didn't want my Scott's fairy wrass(male) because i lost my female. So i traded it for one.

Oh ya.. just in case anyone is wondering what is so bad about hair algae.. well.. the hair algae itself isn't all that terrible.. it is all the crap that gets stuck in it that fouls up the tank that makes it bad. I must have had 100 hermit crab corpses without shells stuck in the hair algae. Just cleaning up 1/3 of the rocks I can already see the few surviving corals starting to appreciate it a few hours later.

That sucks.. how does that happen, Ace? I didn't think reg. green hair algae caused that much of a mess.

In my case it was a vicious cycle of reacting to the wrong problems, or the right problems in the wrong order that caused my major issues. If I would have simply left the hair algae alone and not tried to tackle it full force I would have been better off because of my water issues that I didn't know about in the beginning of the crash. I just saw hair algae, normally not a problem, and I hadn't restocked my CUC for quite some time.. so I thought hey, easy fix, just replenish the CUC.. well.. same time I did that I was pouring ammonia into the tank and killing my new CUC, hundreds of crabs and snails, which only helped fuel the hair algae problems, ammonia spikes, etc and the snowball got really big really fast. In my panic to stabilize things I was doing almost daily 50% water changes... but with bad water, so I was making the problems much worse. Don't you just love hindsight? lol.

Still, the ordeal taught me some lessons I won't forget and I will come out better for it in the long run. :)
