I've been on a shopping trip this afternoon with my DH & daughter looking for Christmas present ideas & ended up in a big garden centre a few towns away. Of course the pram got pushed in the general direction of the aquarium bit to buy a new background pic for the tank. My hubby looked at the tropical section (he fantasises about being a great fishkeeper lol) while I stayed in the coldwater/goldfish section with my daughter... & lo & behold - there were dead fish galore!! :mad2:I can only describe the tanks/vats as, is a 'market of diseased carrots'. There were fish piled upon fish & they looked like carrots that had gone off! The tanks were so full! The poor live ones must have felt like they were living in a coffin... There was also a tank of black/orange moors who had all seen better days too, they were belly up, colourless & staring blankly to the skies. There were tiny koi carp too which looked lovely till you looked carefully & saw the ulcers & flesh missing! Its the 1st time i've seen chunks missing out of a fish in real life..
My daughter (who is 3) kept saying 'Aww poor dead fishes' & it was awful.. I have no idea what could have happened to them all.. maybe someone put something in the water (they were open tanks) & poisoned them? I told one of the assistants who came & sort of peered in, then went away again with a flustered look on her face.. You'd think a company trying to sell fish to the general public would be a bit more vigilant in disposing of such a huge amount of fish before people like me saw them..
The stupid thing was.. its the ONLY fish store i've seen with New Tank Syndrome warnings on every tank. They were quizzing customers about how many other fish they had etc & were vigilant about important things.. but still had more floaters than live ones
Anyway, sorry for the mini rant & just had to tell you guys & get it off my chest...
