I swear, some white spots are gone from my fish...

*EDIT* I think the blue tetra died... but in a disgusting way. Too explicit to put on the forums.....

*EDIT*Nevermind.. It's the silvertip that mysteriously disappeared about a month ago. Man that's really scary. Maybe that's what's kiling my fish?

i read a lot about adding salt to kill ick but the one time I had ick I bumepd my temp up and was ready to add salt the next day ...

However!!!

The ick disappeared within a few hours of temp rising and it's been a month and I haven't seen any sign of it yet.

I have Boesmani Rainbows and Bronze cory in the tank ...

I never added salt and the ick is dead.

Just something to consider *shrug*
 
why can't i just skip all this trouble and just add medicine or something?

This would be the point where I would give up, but then I refuse to.

Now I've got 2 choices - Just use medicine...... or use this method and be insured that the ick is gone....

dang I already messed up the first part and I already ran out of salt (20 tsp for 1 gallon?!?!?! :eek:

*EDIT* about the whole "didn't clean and forgot about the whole missing fish thing only to find it today" thing is really killing me. The fish itself is disgusting now, no way to siphon (or I'll just suck up his err.. stuff) and he's stuck in the tubing. how am I supposed to get rid of him? just looking at him makes me *nearly* puke!

Meds can often be quite harmfull to your fish. BTW, if you think the salt is too complicated for you, you might want to try this...

AS for 20 TSP per 1g, you read it wrong. First dissolve 20 TSP in a gallon, then slowly add that to your tank.
 
ok... I calmed down and all i'm doing are equations about ick in my head.... but what about the disgusting 1 month old dead fish?

btw, if you REALLY want to know what it looks like, i can try to describe it to you but pm me cuz obviosly i don't want the whole forum to know >_>
 
Well, you probably do not have a long bottle brush that will reach through your siphon tube....

How about unwrapping a coat hanger into a straight piece of wire and pushing it out?

I'm astounded as to the amount of salt the treatment calls for. That's 40 tsp of salt in 20 g. Even if added slowly, it seems like a LOT of salt. Would the fish be able to tolerate so much saltiness ? I currently have a black widow tetra and a serpae tetra that look like they have a few spots of ich. Currently 20g tall, 84 deg, 1 tsp salt/gallon, params good. Just want to make sure my and all your calculations are correct before I up the saltiness any more. 2 tsp/gallon --> 40 tsp (?!) for 20g ! I have a total of 1 blk widow tetra, 8 serpae tetras. Not gasping (increased aeration) but 1 serpae tetra really agressively pursuing the blk widow (longfin, some nips)..

If I notice the spots gone 1 day, should I change like 80% (or more) of the water to lessen the amount of floating ich ?
