so i have a bag of sand and i wanna add it to my current tank...is that possible...i dont have to much in my tank and id really like to add more and i have maybe 10ish lbs? im not sure but its gotta a bunch of crushed up seashells i wanna try and get it so i have pure sand but the bag is just taking up space and id really like to add it...can i do it? ne hints?

hey yea i have been kinda on the broke side so im just kinda letting my tank run but i got some more money in so getting back to it...but will adding it mess with my fish or nething...i was thinknig about taking my python filter and taking it apart so its just the short end and idk dumping the sand down it into the water so it will go through the big end and will lay on the bottom...think that would work? if u understand that

ill try it and let u know...who knows maybe ill have a new way to add sand!

I removed 90% of the crushed coral I had, and added 20 lbs of live sand to my tank without removing anything...

I took my time, and made the swap over a few days, but the secret to my relatively clean sand insertion was an bell off an old truck horn. It's about 2 1/2 feet long, allowing me to turn it upside down and use it like a big funnel. I just pointed the small end where I wanted the sand, and dumped a cupfull at a time into the "horn" end.. It was a little messy, but no one suffered in the tank.

Worked for me...

speacking of sand, i am getting real live sand with pods and zoos, it is just 2lbs right now, when i goto put it in the tank do i have to rinse it?
thanks,
shane

I didn't. I'm assuming that rinsing will wash out some of the good stuff you got the sand for in the first place. I could have been wrong, though... I'm a nOOb...

No, don't wash it. The finer the sand, the better. If you get a dust storm after adding the sand, don't worry about it. It will settle pretty quickly, and that's the good stuff.
