advice for new fish if any

i currently have a 30 gal tank but i am in the process of moving up to a 75 gal. i will be able to use the 30 gal of water and the established bio-wheel filter. i have a 8" clown knife. 3" balla shark 3" iradecent shark, 4" dinosaur bachir, and 2" anglefish. in a year or so i plan on moving up to a significnly larger tank 125+ gal. (i may give the bala and iradecent to a friend)

so far everything is silver and im looking to add a new fish that will be a little more colorful and that wont get eaten. any sugestions
 
not gonna suggest anything... as the tank will be way overstocked (75g)... and the ballas should be in a school... and the black gohst knife needs more than a 125g when you get it... are you aware of the adult sizes of the fish you have?

The clown knife alone will get to 39 inches (100cm) and will need at least a, well I'm guesing but can't be too far off, 400g. are you aware of this?

nobody sugguest anything till we get some answers out of him, unless you want to be responsible for some other fish being stunted.
 
im completly aware of the size of the fish i have, and thats why i plan on getting a much larger tank. no place i have ever talked to or seen has quoated that a clown knife will get to 39 inches. i care about my fish very much so it would be nice if you put the torches and pitch forks away for now. i have also talked to a fish store that has agreed that if the clown knife gets to big for my tank before i can get a new one they will take it.
 
well, a clown knife will either get to 39 inches or die prematurely because of to small a tank and the evil results of stunting that go along with it. did you check the link? that is what you have right? Where did you get your info from? If it was frm an LFS you can most likey forget every thing you know about fish and start new. And even if your LFS tells you that they'l take the fish back, thats not a good backup plan. I think other people on here have posted about LFS's not taking common plcos back when they get to big, an they get no where near as big as the clown knife. that site I linked to is a really good site and I'm sure many people on here agree with me (I know roan said this for sure, and floridaboy has even written articles there). Now I'm saying this out of expierence, THE LFS WILL LIE TO MAKE A SALE, so don't trust everything they say.

The torches and pitch fork thing: I care about your fish to, and I haven't made any personal atacks on you like some other previous (he went away, but no names)members do/did on a regular basis. and even some other people would instantly accuse someone with a stocking list like yours a :troll: (troll), I aint that mean.
 
do you have any idea about their growth rates? in a year or so i will have house, i plan on getting a custom aquarium put into the basement. my hope is that he will grow slowly enough for him to not out grow this tank before i can move to a more suitable environment
 
1. One of my lfs definitely takes large fish--they just got a 24" Red Tail Catfish. And have taken and resold others (channel cats, oscars, dempseys, flowerhorn, etc).
2. Clown knife fish can get quite large, but if I'm not mistaken, it's rare they reach up to 40" in captivity. Check our sponsor, Monsterfishkeepers.com for feedback.
3. Dorkfish, this person is just looking for advice and help; to flame him as you did, when this website does an enormous amount of assistance for many newbs, is rather rude and, IMO, not your place. Folks who have years of experience such as debramark, nursie, sploke, rtr, roan and numerous others, have a much more tactful way of helping people with such situations.
Just my 2 taters worth.
 
sorry, I just hate it when people put fish in tanks like that (with that stocking levels), and have dealt with the "they grow to the tanks" thing way to many times. my old LFS was trying to convince me they did.
 
I don't think dorkfish was rude...he needed to point out the fact that those fish get huge. The iridescent shark alone will get huge, and it is destructive when startled.
The original poster should also try to spell the names of the fish a little better as well. It seems uninformed to that he stuffs a 30 gal tank with huge fish, and can't even spell the common names right. Research is the most important thing to do before acquiring fish.
 
i guess my real question is: is a 7-8" clown knife going to be terribly uncomfortable in a 75 gallon aquarium for a year.

75 Gallon will be fine for more than a year in my opinion. There will be a time when you have to upgrade again, but not for awhile.
