Agression due to feeding?

Thanks y'all. Since I've started feeding them more often (2x on weekdays, 3x on weekends) they seem to be much more relaxed. I also picked up some Hikari freeze dried bloodworms which they really seem to love (DH wouldn't go for the fresh ones as they were too "gross" or something). I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for the Hikari Lionhead. I checked 2 petsmarts, but I'll probably look at a small fish store that's near my house too. Once I get that, I'll toss the tetrafin and feed bloodworms and those pellets.

And yeah, they are exactly like little kids who eat too many cookies. It's actually pretty adorable. They've got such cool personalities.
 
They do each have their own little characters, don't they? And people who don't have fish just don't get it....I have to take just enough food out to the pond for one feeding, or I will find myself still there 20 minutes later, feeding them just to watch them, though mine have gotten so tame all I have to do is put a hand in the water and say something and they come running :hearts: Love my fishies!!

That is so sweet. Whenever I turn off the fountain to feed them then come nosing around to check out what's going on. It's really cute. I just wish they'd get a little friendlier and nibble on my fingers a bit more. I can sometimes get Jackie Chan Fish to take a little taste, but the others just won't go for it. Maybe when they're bigger they'll get a little more confident.
 
Turning off the filter is one way I "trained' my fish to feed in a certain area. It was for my baby channel cat that I never saw eat when the other fish came out. I turned it off so the fish know when its chow time. I did this for about a week, (they learn fast for food rewards) Now when I, or anybody for that matter goes to that spot, the fish come a running. Even if my dog gets a drink from that spot the fish come to her. It's pretty funny when the puppy gets splashed from hungry little fish.

Ahhhh...that's just so cute! I bet the pup jumps when the water starts movin...:grinyes:
 
Hey Muske that's cool to know! I have to turn my fountain off to feed them because of the pond size. The water surface just has too much motion to feed them with the fountain on. Kind of a pain.

What I wanna know is how Jennie Beth gets her fishies to swim up into her hands! That is way too cool!
 
They will eventually w/patient, consistant, feeding from the same location. Once they learn, they will eat from your hands at anywhere around the pond. The size of the fish seems to help also. My bigger goldies (5-7") that are able to eat a couple of pellets at a time will take them from my hands. Smaller guys just come up to take a pellet and go off to eat it. My koi started this season since it too is big enough now.
Hopefully the channel cat will by fall.:naughty:
 
Aw, that is so cool! I think part of my problem is that Rambo is so completely un-trusting. Who can blame him since his previous owners abandoned him in the bottom of what was essentially a stagnant puddle of mud. I didn't even know he was there until a month after we had bought the house and at that time, the place had been unocupied for 90 days! Poor fishy. Trouble is, I think his fear rubs off on the others a bit. It's a process. We're working on it. We just have to keep it up I guess! Patience is going to be the key here.

Part of the reason mine aren't shy around me may have to do with MY size. I am REALLY short, as in under 5' tall. And, as the water level is 2' above ground level, to my fish I am not quite 3' tall. So I don't cast a big shadow over the water. I started hand feeding mine with pond sticks, which look and smell like cheerios, but are sticks instead of donut shapes. If you wet your finger, you can stick a pond stick to it and hold it right at the water surface, and someone will come by and check it out. Come to think of it, Lupin said once that fish are attracted to garlic. Next time you chop-chop for dinner, why not perfume up a finger or two and see what happens :) Don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I chatter constantly when I am out there, too...'course, I chatter constantly, anyway, even when I TYPE!!
