air pump, battery operated

You can buy these devices from Cabelas (they are intended for livewells and minnowwells but work for aquariums).

Yes, that is one place... I have seen those before, unfortunately there are not too many Cabela's around. I am lucky enough to live less than 15 minutes from the Cabela's in Dundee, Michigan. I will have to go check them out again.

The one near me is the newest, and its HUGE. These stores attract people from all over the midwest for some reason. They have a HUGE waterfall hooked up to a pond going around the store. The fish in the pond are all native fish which would be found in the great lakes.... huge fish. ;)

I just used a Penn Plaxx Silent Air for a long move. It was noisy but I got five days of operation out of two D cells. I would definitely recommend it.

LOL, I was just going to post a question on battery operated pumps!

Has anybody tried that one that recharges? Is it worth the extra money or should I just get the penn-plax?

I'm scared to death of power outages now, my husband turned off the power once to work on the electrical and then I nearly had a heart attack when I couldn't get my pump's impeller to start again! (a Tetratec I've since gotten a new filter and tank since then!).

On the Penn-plax is it strong enough that one could handle a 55 gallon tank or should I get more than one? What about for my smaller tanks? (a 5 and a 10 gallon).

Thanks

If you are worried about power outages you my want to consider a UPS. These are designed for computers but they will power and aquarium for a while.
