Help.. I have a 55 gal saltwater tank.
Inventory:
turbo snails(5)
small crabs(5)
cukecumber worm(1)
shrimp red and white striped(1)
damsels(1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 yellowtailed blue)
hermit crab(1)
yellow tang(1)
clown fish(1)
anemone(1)
somekind of worm that lives in a conch shell(1) it has almost clear thread like things that pick up sand and carry it into the shell.(never seen the critter)
brittle starfish(1)
goby(black with white band running the length)(1)
Living conditions:
Live sand(varies from 1.5 inches to approx. 3 inches) + crushed coral mix
live rock
conch shells(2)
large scallop shell
questions:
1. is this too much stuff for this size tank?
2. how much is too much food? the tang seems to eat all the food before the rest of the other fish can eat.
3.brittle starfish is turning kinda white where the little spikes are falling off.
4. shrimp seems to like to attack the other fish(I've been told he's eating the parasites, if so should I use a parasite killer?)
5. turbo snails only dine on the good pink algea, not the green. are they weird and what should I do to keep the pink?
6. in the places where the turbo snails can't get to the pink is almost a burgundy color, is this good?
a little about the tank:
I set it up in dec 02. cycled it and all was well added 6 damsels, and assorted crabs and snails. added shrimp then 3 damsels died. water change(15gal) all well again water always testing perfectly. started growing a lot of pink. added cuke wrom and 2 gobies. doing great! added one small very colorfulfish can't remember the name. started to get green algea. realized it was from sun position change and the sun was comming thru a window and hitting the tank. closed shades, green stopped growing. lost 1 goby. other growing very nicely! now the water tests perfectly. got tang and clown fish. now starfish losing spikes. doing 20 gal water change today....any suggestions?
