Help.. I have a 55 gal saltwater tank.
Inventory:
turbo snails(5)
small crabs(5)
cukecumber worm(1)
shrimp red and white striped(1)
damsels(1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 yellowtailed blue)
hermit crab(1)
yellow tang(1)
clown fish(1)
anemone(1)
somekind of worm that lives in a conch shell(1) it has almost clear thread like things that pick up sand and carry it into the shell.(never seen the critter)
brittle starfish(1)
goby(black with white band running the length)(1)

Living conditions:
Live sand(varies from 1.5 inches to approx. 3 inches) + crushed coral mix
live rock
conch shells(2)
large scallop shell

questions:
1. is this too much stuff for this size tank?
2. how much is too much food? the tang seems to eat all the food before the rest of the other fish can eat.
3.brittle starfish is turning kinda white where the little spikes are falling off.
4. shrimp seems to like to attack the other fish(I've been told he's eating the parasites, if so should I use a parasite killer?)
5. turbo snails only dine on the good pink algea, not the green. are they weird and what should I do to keep the pink?
6. in the places where the turbo snails can't get to the pink is almost a burgundy color, is this good?

a little about the tank:
I set it up in dec 02. cycled it and all was well added 6 damsels, and assorted crabs and snails. added shrimp then 3 damsels died. water change(15gal) all well again water always testing perfectly. started growing a lot of pink. added cuke wrom and 2 gobies. doing great! added one small very colorfulfish can't remember the name. started to get green algea. realized it was from sun position change and the sun was comming thru a window and hitting the tank. closed shades, green stopped growing. lost 1 goby. other growing very nicely! now the water tests perfectly. got tang and clown fish. now starfish losing spikes. doing 20 gal water change today....any suggestions?

My turbo snails and hermits don't eat the green algae either. They go to town on brown algae, but they don't even touch the green stuff. I just have to remove it by hand.

Your red and white striped shrimp is cleaning you fish. This is a good thing. You don't need a parasite killer unless you have a visible outbreak of something like Ich, velvet, or Black Spot. The shrimp is just helping the fish to maintain their health, and he gets fed in the process. This is how reef fish keep clean in the wild. Symbiosis at work. ;)

thank you!...any tips on the brittle starfish? any tips on getting more pink...quicker than they can eat it? other than throwing them out the back door? hehe do any of you replying to my messages have aol im? I'm still trying to figure out this whole message thing here.(it's a blonde thing) IM me cuttingras!

not real sure what my levels are I take my water to a fish store(who has helped me all along). she says everything is good. lots of live rock like I said 2 conch shells and a large scallop shell I am using two different filters. one is a double "water fall"(?) came with the tank, the other is a small one. they both use carbon filters, which I just changed both. I can send a pic to you of the tank and I can get pretty close up let me know if you'd want me to do that thank you very much for your help! not sure if the one person was asking if my goby is long and kinda flat ,,,yes it is it's still a baby, though. Also, I did lose the pretty fish(half pink half yellow) about a month after we got it. It just died. They do great, or so it seems and then they just die. Along the way we also had 2 domino damsels which have died. This is getting expensive!
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!! Email me at: cuttingras@aol.com
Thank You!
