The brevis were kind to me last night by posing for some pics so I thought I'd try to get some pics of my comps. Altolamps are, probably, my second favorite cichlid. I love their profile and their finnage and the way they move about the aquarium. They are more shy than my brevis; so, I have to be very patient to get good pics. What I did for these pics was to set up the tripod and angle the camera at a good "ambush spot" where I know they like to hang out. So, with the camera pointing at the choice location, I pressed the shutter down half way (lock-n-load) and stood back away from the tank just far enough where I could keep my finger on the trigger and when an altolamp came near the ambush spot - fire.

I got a couple decent pics but the elusive "full fins erect" shot eluded me. So, I am gonna leave the tripod and camera in front of the tank so they get used to it. Wish I had a remote button so I could snap pics from a distance. In any event, here are some of my comps...

I really liked this pic. I like the reflective dots in the fins and the green on the lip. Definitely one of my favorite fish :)

Very sharp!

They are really handsome fishes!

Thanks guys :)

Most of those pics were of one of the females. Here's a few of the rest of the clan...

A few pics of my favorite male altolamp:

This is my most aggressive altolamp and the hardest to photograph. He has the orangest of the orange fins

I like a lot your most aggressive Comp!

Still trying to get that "full finage" shot. When I went to feed them tonight they came up close, multile comps, full finnage. I didn't feed them, went and got the tripod and tried to feed with one finger on the trigger and they were spooked by the tripod. Did get a couple pics but they were not close. I'll leave the tripod there for few days to get them used to it.

Here is the best I could get, it was in the back of the tank and not as quality of an image as I would like.

Hey Pitt, I like Inkfin (a lot).

Here is my list of favorite altolamps (in no particular order):
A. Calvus (Inkfin)
A. Compressiceps (Kigoma Red)
A. Compressiceps (Muzi Gold Head)
A. Compressiceps (Chataika Orange Fin) - which is what mine are.

Hope you score on the Inkfin!
