What common aquarium fish will actually hurt you when they nibble at your hands? I assume many cichlids and saltwater fish would, and obviously eels!

After reading that in proportion to their body size, a betta's bite is as powerful as a shark's, I keep an eye on him when I stick my hand in, but luckily he's shy. :)

Be careful of those radioactive guppies...after they bite you, you'll grow gills behind your hears, your hands and feet will become webbed, and you'll start swimming really really fast.

Don't forget what your "social" life will become... :grinno:

I'd imagine a pacu's jaws would hurt, after seeing a 4' red bellied pacu crushing a nut the size of my fist

My big silver dollar bit me the other day during a water change. It didn't hurt too bad, but he was really biting hard and would not let go! It was like he was stuck to my finger. It freaked me out a little.

Puffers have very sharp teeth and will break skin if they are bigger. My little GSP bite me once but it was just a little nibble, still scared the crap out of me. My blue damsel also bite me once, didn't hurt though just felt like a peck.

When my severums spawn they attack my arms, they mostly bite onto arm hair and pull...doesn't really hurt. My oscar on the other hand, grabbed onto my pinky up to the first knuckle. Didn't hurt but surprised the heck out of me. He's come close to ending up on the floor a few times during feeding time.

my oscar bit my knuckle and ripped once.. actually broke the skin, believe it or not. i was so mad i had to walk away for a while.. lol

Ouch! All I have is livebearers and a betta, but when I first started out, and didn't expect them to *not* be scared of my hands, I almost knocked the hood off my tank a couple times when they nibbled my arm.... until I learned to expect the tickles.
