I don't shriek, but I do get startled and pull my hand out quickly if they bite me when I'm not expecting it. I do hand feed them sometimes, and it doesn't bother me then, but I do get quite startled when they get me when I'm cleaning out the tank.
Don't have that problem anymore, although it never freaked me out. The fish I have now see my hand and go "ekk a hand! swim for your lives and hide!!" lol
I used to have gold fish who HAD to be right where I was, they even followed me when I'd walk around the room. I thought it was cute. Well.. sometimes annoying too when I was trying to place something in the tank and they wanted to 'help'.
The claener shrimp in my reef climbs on me when I put my hand/arm inthe tank. clownfish atacks me for food. buenos aires tetras splash me while eating.
Yeah, I'm totally freaked out by fish lips touching me. I soak my betta's pellets & he bites them off my finger--but I'm afraid that one day when I pull my hand out (usually real fast!) he'll be still hanging on & I'll throw him across the room.
It doesnt bother me at all, in fact I think it feels neat. My angels and my betta all like to nibble on me when I'm in the tank. My boyfriend on the other hand, well, he hates it. He rips his hand right out of the tank and even jumps a bit if they touch him lol. Too Funny.
I don't have a problem with my fish tank fishies...but snorkelling out at the lake and running across a 3 foot long carp gets me running screaming out of the water every time! They're mean looking suckers!
I get a little nervous when vaccuming my Oscar tank. They've never took a nip at me but I also don't give them the chance. Its funny cause I have pitbulls and a mastiff and don't think twice about putting my hands in thier mouth or thier food bowls.
I have only one tank that I worry about whether or not the fish wants to munch on my fingers. I'll let you guess which one.
In the community tank, even the Otto has attached himself to my arm once or twice. The guppies are so friendly, I can lift them out in a handful of water.
Let's be honest, unless you've got piranhas or some other predator, you really don't have anything to worry about. Still, it's a weird sensation for sure. I used to have an angelfish that would eat of my hand before the tank it was in crashed and it died.
When I had a community tank with livebearers I loved feeding the fish by hand. I have some very small freckles on my lower arm and wrist which must look like flake food because when I fed them I’d always get a few very determined fish trying to eat my freckles, it always cracked me up. They were so focused on what they were doing I was almost able to ‘pet’ those guys, I loved it!
