Amazing Flying Fish Video Link!!! <//MUST SEE!//<

THE FISH ARE NOT JUMPING OUT OF THE WATER BECAUSE OF THE LIGHT!

if that were true youd see schools of fish jumping all the time whenever the sun flickered on the water. most likely the fish were trying to escape a predator. i know down here shrimp and mullet will do that when trout are hunting them. you can always find them by the mess of seagulls scooping up the free snack.

going to an area where they know the fish would jump in the boat? are you serious? stop for a minute and think about that one.

ill have my father tell me exaclty what the guys are yelling, but from the little i speak they are astounded and have never seen anything like that.

Just like I can't say for sure they were, you can't say for sure they're not. I doubt we have a scientist here who specializes in this species of fish, but I find that interesting they chose to film that in the night. Regardless, light or no light, that's not very humane. I like how the guy picks up the thrashing fish and then just drops it back in the boat instead of back in the water.

It looked to me like they were making a documentary. People do that sort of thing to share with folks like us....some of the amazing things you find in our world that most of us will never see. I always enjoyed watching David Attenborough's "Nature" shows.

I think it was a very amazing thing to see...I didn't find any cruelty in it at all, frankly. I guess I just don't view fish as people...I see them as....well......FISH !

Agreed with emg, fish don't even feel pain like we do. Besides the beginning of the video looks like the intro to a foreign fishing show, so they were probably out night fishing when this happened and were just enjoying the comidy of it. I have seen schoools of shad boil the surface and jump out when they are being coralled by a large predator underneith, I usually catch something without fail after trolling through the baitfish school. The video though looks like more that just a school of baitfish, they are pretty big for baitfish(unless they have sharks in that river) and it seems to be happening to the whole river.
z71silverado: please let us know if you find out what they are saying, and what it sounds like the circumstances are.

There was nothing wrong with this...very interesting indeed. When I go night fishing, I have a small light on top of my head so I can see what I am doing and never did anything remotely like this happen.

Could this be as simple as light attracts insects, which might be what the fish are jumping for? Kinda like bats in the headlights where I live (makes night driving slow and scarry).

The background music was kinda strange. I thought the footage was cool though. I don't think they were trying to hurt the fish because they seemed to be sincerely taken with what was happening. I just know that I wouldn't have sounded so tickled if a bunch of fish were flying towards my head.

I have been an avid (2-3 times a week) fisherman in coastal FL,AL, and MS for the last 20 years and trust me, shinging a light on the water does not make fish jump into your boat. I have cought fish under bridge lights because they are attracted to lights suspended over that water on dark nights ( they can see bait fish siloetted and its an easy meal). as a child my friends and I often ran little 14' skiffs into tight packed schools of mullet and they jumped up on the beach.
this is the same sort of thing,

probably high water has stranded massive schools of fish in small creeks and these guys are spooking them into jumping, the water way is so tight that at least some end up in the boat.
