Amazontanklvr's tank build/blog

You guys are right, sorry for the confusion.? I can't believe they are selling them for ±1 per stem now. I am still used to them being sold in bundles for $1 or $2.
It's ok. lol. Wel all make mistakes. We're all human. :)
I see you are no longer looking at these, which is good. They can be quite aggressive. Kerris are the better community fish.
Yes. I place my order so there is no going back now.

Small update.
My farlowella's injusr seems to be looking better. It burst two days ago and not it looks to be healing. However she looks awfully plump. Like really big! I don't feed her/him (I think her) so I don't think it's bloat. Maybe she's gravid? I'll get pics later this week.

Exciting news!
Im getting another tank! For qt/breeding. Qt first. Do you guys thing a 14 gallon cube will be good for dimensions? 15" cubed. There's an AMAZING deal on one on craigslist.

There's also a really good deal (better than the one above) of a 20 gallon high. Im leaning to that one.

Id go for the 20gal :D

ok.
Tall tanks are terrible... cube sounds good
Conficting messages here.
Why do you say they are terrible? I mean it is longer than the 15.

I mean I like both. The cube is rimless so that's a big plus for me.
But the 20 is cheaper and comes with more stuff.
Hmmm. I have to think about this.
Maybe i'll contact both people.
But the 20 is 10$ cheaper. Maybe i'll see if the cube people will come down at all.
lol My thoughts

What are the 14g cube dimensions? 15″ x 15.5″ x 14″? What would you be keeping in it?

A 20g tall is 24″ x 12″ x 16″. Both are fairly tall tanks for a smaller footprint. Take the footprint only. You lose 9" in length and gain 3.5" in width front to back. When i'm dealing with smaller tanks, I look at the footprint. But also what type of fish i'm keeping. For ex I use tall tanks to grow out my angels. But for most fish, they will use the horizontal space, so a 15 x 15" tank is like 2 x 5.5g tanks side by side for width. So I would stock fish that are good for 10 gallons in the 14g cube.

The biggest problem with tall column style tanks for me is they don't offer a ton of surface gas exchange. So I must keep an airstone or sponge filter to circulate water from low to high and also hopefully help with o2 levels at the bottom for say lower strata fish. Also it limits how many fish that use horizontal space you can keep. At the same time, it offers more room for 2 different strata fish.

But when you really think about it, there's not much difference between a 20g tall and 14g cube really. I mean I would stock similar fish anyway. Purely my 2 cents and probably more thought than you want lol.
