Some updates. The Turbofloater 1000 multi was the skimmer i had planned for this tank, however, ive found someone selling a used (only year old) Deltec MCE 600 skimmer (HOT or in sump). Supposed to be one of the best, if not the best, and capable of doing a 120 US gallon tank heavily stocked.

Any opinions on this skimmer?? Ive heard alot about Deltec, but never really looked into them due to their prices.
 
Deltec is a good choice but this one might not be enough on a 72g.
I'd prefer something with a a larger capabiliity, double your tank capacity.

EDIT: You'll probably be fine with this deltec, depending on your stocking. Is this fowlr or a reeftank? If its reef, I'd go to higher. You can never overskim.
Look for one that's easy to clean and operate. Some are not!!!!!Aqua C Remora and Coralife are good if set up right. I think coralife has some glitches, noisewise and needs alot of tweeking (as I'm reading online) I'm using a simple weipro (won) with a 400gph rated pump (aquaclear powerhead) and it works very well.

Have you checked out Aquaria Canada Marine Supply? I;m on this forum as Swimfins. They are a good bunch and give alot of good advice. (Most are Ontario based)

The coralife IME is the most bang for the buck. There are horror stories online, but i have a couple on my maintenance accounts and they rock :dance:

By the way, some more good news. Ive sold my 72 gallon today for a excellent price, and will not be getting the 90 gallon Sedona all wood tank, drilled, with 30 gallon sump, refuge, overflow box, and return pup (1200 gPH).

I may have to reconsider my skimmer. I plan on going reef, SPS.

Well, one person there is saying teh Deltec MCE 600 would be just fine.

Im confused, but ive only gotten one response from there so far.
 
I read all the input. I think the concensus is to go with it. Reefsalt is very good and will not cmment on something he has no experience with but he said it looks good, well built. Swisseman says to go with it, he is happy with his. I'd do it. IJO is Ivan, he runs the retail business and can pretty much get whatever your little hearts desire. This is an excellent Canadian forum. If you hang out and post questions here, they will get to know you and be glad to help in all situations, they even banded together when someone had a house fire and helped save his livetock. It pays to make friends here. I met some of them at a meeting in Ottawa and was a little nervous, but they were all so kind and friendly...even if I only had a stinking little 30g tank lol :)
 
Swimfan, a great forum it is, and great advice was given!!

Things have changed yet again though, and now it's finalized. My dad is gona help pitch in.

Changes include:

-Tank will be after all a 90 gallon.
- Will have a 30 gallon sump with built in refuge (DIY from free, top corner drilled 30 gallon i recieved)
- Will have a Quite one 1200 GPH external pump (got it for free as well!!)
- Two 270 GPH pump in the main tank

Also picked up a few items over the last few weeks after selling off my plants, fish, etc.

Items include Refractometer, Salt, 80lbs of arraganite, and a couple of powerheads. Also recieved a 200 watt heater in exchange for a few fish.

Heres a picture of tank with drilled hole. I re-sealed it, and have it filled to check for leaks.

Will get some baffles within the next few weeks, and starting converting it to a sump.
