Ok, I haven't been able to find a lot of basic info on Angel fish, so I have some questions.

I have 5- 3 black lace angels, 2 silver angels. 1 of the silvers has some gorgeous red coloration to it.

Anyway, it is a 75 gallon that is being converted to heavily planted. They are in there with 2 raphael catfish and my 2 Giant Danios.

Questions:

1. I have heard to keep them between 78-80 degrees. My water naturally stays right around 80 in the summer so is that correct?

2. Food wise: I have freeze dried shrimp, krill, Hikari Gold, predator wafers(primarily for the cats), cichlid essentials, 2 cans of the cichlid soft pellet food. Are all of these good food for my angels?

3. Any particular plants to stay away from?

4. Is 35% once a week enough of a water change?

5. I have hear a lot of watching out for velvet with Angels- what causes that? poor water conditions?

6. Can I add some schooling fish? I am thinking of adding 8-10 tetras.

Thanks, feel free to let me know anything else I need to worry about. BTW, yes the tank is fully cycled and all that.

(my) Answers - all just "afaik"
1. I have heard to keep them between 78-80 degrees. My water naturally stays right around 80 in the summer so is that correct?
Yes, that's fine
2. Food wise: I have freeze dried shrimp, krill, Hikari Gold, predator wafers(primarily for the cats), cichlid essentials, 2 cans of the cichlid soft pellet food. Are all of these good food for my angels?
Yes, again, fine
3. Any particular plants to stay away from?
Angels are not known to be big plant disturbers, so whatever will grow given your lighting etc. should be OK
4. Is 35% once a week enough of a water change?
Depends more on a combination of your stocking levels (which are pretty low for now) and your fertilizing plans. If you go EI, you may well want to increase to 50%/week. If you go PPS, 35%/week is more than adequate, untill your angels mature, then you may have to go up a bit.
5. I have hear a lot of watching out for velvet with Angels- what causes that? poor water conditions?
Velvet is something that they can come down with if they're stressed or their immune system is weak for some other reason. It's kind of like fish athlete's foot. It is treatable. Wild angels are prone to having other parasites.
6. Can I add some schooling fish? I am thinking of adding 8-10 tetras.
I'd avoid the nippier species (Serpaes) and stick to the fast, peaceful species (Black Neons, maybe Cardinals, Lemon, Emporer, Congo...)

Aren't neon tetra's the natural food for angel's in the wild? I think I've read that before

Black neons (not really neons) are also fine with angels.
keep an eye out for a pair forming. angels are very difficult to sex so there is no tried and true way to seperate males from females.
they do form strong pair bonds and will get very aggressive when spawning.

my angels eat freakin oto's but they leave black neons alone.

they wil eat neons but the black neons and cards get larger(close to 2") they seem to leave them alone.

Aren't neon tetra's the natural food for angel's in the wild? I think I've read that before
Yes, they are. Tetras are naturally the prey of angels. I'd stick with larger, deeper-bodied species than the slim-bodied ones.;)
