angels and a betta?

I've always heard that bettas with anything "finny" can be a dangerous mix. Meaning, if a betta can look at it and say, "Wow, ornate fins... wait, like mine! I must kill the competition!" then it's a bad idea. Of course, I am certain someone that has a betta with angels will speak up shortly and extoll the virtues of this type of setup. Individual experiences vary. You could always set the betta in a small bowl next to said angel tank and see if he flares.

rule of thumb is: don't put a male betta with any fish that has long or flowy fins. Angelfish can hold their own, but maybe a bit too much. I think the betta will upset them and they will gang up on him.

I wouldn't try it.

I'd wager the betta would die.

I agree that the betta would **** off the angels and they would kill him. Save the betta and put him in a 2.5 gal

you are the only one that can answer that question really. I have my betta in with my angel. but my betta is laid back, i've only seen him puff up once in the 2 years I've had him and my angel is even less agressive than the betta. my angel is a real scardy cat and won't even retailate to getting his fins nipped(removed those culprits).

so it depends on your fish. How do the angels react to other fish in with them? do they try to chase other fish away from food to the point of forgetting it? or do they allow any one to take food from under their nose?

is your betta ready to flare or puff up at the drop of a hat?

only if you can say that your angels are not agressive and are laid back and realatively speaking can say the same about the betta... should you consider it. the betta has more to loose so I would weigh the personality of the angels more and consider wheather the betta will be likely to be in their faces enough to rile them or not.

if you arn't sure try putting betta in a clear trap like some people use for livebearers and see how the angels react.

but if angels start breeding that betta won't be safe still, bettas are preditors and the conflict of the angels keeping thier babies safe will end up with a battered betta.

Hmmm.....not too sure about this. I would watch the betta for signs of agressivness in a 2.5g bowl. just watch his behavior and if he even puffs up at his own reflection in the glass, then I wouldnt do it. The angels could really tear him up.

likewise.... Angels drove my betta into a sucidal depression..... got stressed, then swollen, then dead..... I took the angels back to the LFS, within 4 weeks of getting them I had 6 fish out of 30 die.... They were devil fish.

Im getting a tank lets see soon and angels would have been a posible incorperation on my setup I was thinking if I could sneak in my betta, but not oly does it depend on the betta also on the angels. My Betta is reall timid and will not even puff up to his own reflection in a mirror.

If you try it, let us know...I'm curious!
