Another Dead Discus....

rackin my pea-brain fer ya!! hell--- voltage leak? IDK.. how is QT goin?

Well the fish in QT is still alive..
Fins arent clamped anymore..
not swimming alot, but not lying on the substrate either..

Well I am going to bed..
Hopefully they are alive tomorrow.

Aw Zig, I'm sorry! Did you check your CO2 that everything is ok with it? Have you added anything to the water column recently like Excel?

Everyone is still alive this morning. The small red turq stayed in the 125, and the marlboro red in the 37 plant tank. not sure what happened.

I stopped dosing ferts a long time ago.
I shut off the co2, and drained about 30% of the water from the tank. I was hoping the surface agitation from the FX5 output would help gas off any over abundant Co2. I didnt even do a water change yesterday, so I dont know what happened...

no ferts, no new foods... I cant think of anything that would have caused this..
Only the discus were affected... does that even make sense?

I just refilled the DC about 3 weeks ago..
My co2 is still close to 1000PSI. no tank dump.

If it was excess co2, wouldnt the other fish also be affected by it?
the 45 tetras, 7 clown loaches, 3 SAEs and pleco seem fine.
even the 20+ RCS are doing just fine..
I dont get it..

Does excess CO2 hit the biggest first? Or the ones closest to the surface first? Something made your ph drop and I doubt it was old tank syndrome. What does your ph normally run?

Not necessarily. There is wide variability in what specimens can handle when it comes to levels of dissolved gases. Especially at such a high temp, the water holds so much less O2. Remember that the concentration of CO2 and O2 are independent variables. You can run at high concentrations of both simultaneously but it takes a delicate balance; one gas does not "drive" out the other dissolved gas. Biologically, what's important for the fish is the ratio of O2 to CO2. I've never owned discus but is it fair to say they are more sensitive? That low pH is still suspicious... so hard to know for sure but in the absence of any other info. my guess is asphyxiation. With the water change and CO2 shut-off I'm willing to bet you won't see any more losses.

Either way, it sucks and you have my max sympathy.
