Lost a Yellow Tang this morning. Have no idea why. This is the second fish in three days... water tests are all normal... anyone have any suggestions.... my gramma is doing seemingly fine....

Having just lost 3 fish, including a regal tang, you have my sympathies. Any symptoms in the fish? Gasping, color loss, eating?

How long had you had both of these fish? While cyanide collection is declining, it does still happen, and it is lethal to fish. Most cyanide fish will initially appear to thrive--healthy, good color, eating happily. Internally, their kidneys are failing, and they eventually die without showing any real signs of distress or ailment. It can take months, but all cyanide captured fish eventually die. Good stores know this and make sure their suppliers do not offer these fish, but they get through. There is one store that I will never buy fish from--they have the lowest prices around, but I've never had a fish survive from them.

thanx for the reply..... i just got both the fish five days ago.... the percula died the next day, and the tang lasted until this morning.... I know that they were delivered to the lfs only one day before i purchased them. that might make a difference....i also found out that the fish were delivered without heatpacks to the lfs and there happened to be a very cold night the night before they arrived at the fish store.... this might also have an effect.... both fish seemed perfectly healthy... nice color and appetite.... but never the less they died.... water is still in good shape.... let me know what you think...

i had a false percula jump out of my tank last night. couldnt find him this mourning. so i waited untill feeding time when they run to the top. but nothing. decide to clean behind the tank because my children had been here over the weekend. there he was. stiff as a board and all dried up. loosing fish sucks alot more than i thought it would. especially when you have had them for a while!

From what you said they would have died in either your tank or at the dealer. There really wasn't anything that you could have done for them except pray. I wouldn't ever buy a fish that hadn't been in my dealers tank for a least a couple of weeks. You might get somewhere by calling them and reporting your fishes deaths because from what you said about the shipping conditions I'd say everyone of them probably died. Just wanted to let you know it was nothing that you did or could have done.

I did in fact call the lfs and the owner seemed concerned but when asked how the other fish were doing that came in on that shipment he said he hadnt had any other problems... well that may or may not be true but I will never buy another fish without knowing it has been in the tank for a couple of weeks... my kids were just having a fit over Nemo and Dorie and you know the rest of that story... Thanks all for the info...

can anyone tell me of a reliable source to purchase the fishes.... either online or around north carolina

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/ this is a good site with lots of info and pretty good prices. Also if you're into inverts http://www.ipsf.com/index.html#anchor385852 just two of many.
How long has your tank been set up is your cycle over? If not I'd wait till I had 0 readings and regal tangs are hard to keep even bye experienced keeper. @#$#$% nemo! The clown will be much easier but, I wouldn't get an anemone untill you really have a lot of practice if then.

yes tank has cycled.... dont know what "*&$!@# nemo" means.
dont have any anemonies and dont want any for a few more months anyhow.... but dont want to lose anymore fish.... i only have a couple mollys and my gramma left... this in a 75 gallon tank looks pretty pitiful.........plus the fact it isnt fun to lose pets... :shake:
