another peacock gudgeon breeding journal

I got a few pictures of the babies out of the tube and in the tank now, but still attatched to their egg sacs. They are staying on the bottom while still attatched. I have a crappy camera, so it looks like the bottom of the fry tank is dirty, but really most of it is little particles of stuff underneath the clear bottomed tank. These guys are SUPER small, so the small stuff under the tank looks huge. anyway, you can sort of see them becoming little fish in the pics. :)

Well, the fry are still on the bottom of the tank feeding off their egg sacs. I tried to get some good pics, but they are SO small, it's really hard. I will post the one pic I got where you could actually see them, but even that is fuzzy at best. On the other hand, mom and dad are doing the breeding dance in their tank again, so I thought you guys might enjoy some shots of them. :)

LMAO..if they live I would be glad too. I am still not convinced the spawn will survive. I am going to do my best though. :)

Does your camera have a video function? I'd love to see a video of the "dance"!

What did you do to get them "in the mood"? What did you condition them on?

My tank is heavily planted, has two skinny pvc tubes, (I'm going to add another one) and I've been giving them meaty foods, like live worms, bloodworms, brine shrimp, cyclops, etc. I think I'm going to stop doing that and start again in about a month or so.

I will try to get the dance on video next time. I have the spawning video at the begining of this thread, and they are back in teh tube spawning again right now. I think this is a different female though. I will try to catch them in the act of flashing and dancing next time. I feed mine a variety of frozen bloodworms, grindal worms, beefheart flakes, and BBS. They seem to get the most spawny after the grindal worms and BBS. Something about chasing those live foods lol. I also do more water changes when I am trying to get a spawn. I change 10 to 20% every other day, and that seems to put them in the mood also. :)

Thanks! Me too. I am mostly just worried about getting them to eat once they start swimming. Hopefully it will all go well. :)
