Another trip to the discus breeder

that white pigeon is beautiful.

I had some for a while, but they were imports and in realllllly bad shape by the time I got them. I managed to keep some of them alive for a month or two, but in the end they all died. Most of them never even ate. I would like to get some quality stock and try again in the future, but it won't be for a little while. Its something to keep in mind for when I do try again though.

Sploke- I had the same thing, I bought a small pigeon blood awhile back and it never ate and eventually died....my water is in pristine condition so I dont know waht happened....maybe i acclimated it wrong..but id love to try again! The fish was 30$ but I dont wanna try that again and lose it again...

the best place to get discus is from a local breeder or a very reputable breeder who knows the ins and outs of dicsus.
Fishmatty got really great fish by locating a breeder and hands down the quality is superior to what you will find at most LFS.
the breeder keeps the best for his stock and then sells the others ..usually first to interested buyers(the breeder can know then the fish will go to good homes)
then to the LFS.

in essence..most of the breeders I know will sell 3rds(culls) but even those are pretty nice fish compared to the ones imported to the lfs.

What really makes this guy different is he is a hobbyist before a breeder. I got lucky with the san merahs they were his last two and even luckier when he sold me two of his personal fish. The white pigeon and the blue diamond.
A breeder that is in it for the money will be more expensive and you might get more to choose from.

Sploke and happy bob,
juvenile discus are much harder to raise and require much different requirements then larger more adult discus.

I went through a bunch of small discus before I was able to keep them successfully.

Really clean water isn't the only thing with small discus. If you had up to 6 1" to 2" discus they would do so much better to start growing them out in a 20g tank the a 55g tank. Also BB is the way to go with babies.

1-2 " is the smallest size..the larger the size the easier it is ti keep them.
but anything that is still eatting BBS should not be sold ..all juvies should be eating flake or other food.

I've raised all mine from the 1-2" size with no issues..
they need clean water and plenty of food.
