Any online gamers here?

I hear ya man. I had a clinical addiction to Earth & Beyond, a game now lost to the mists of time. After my parents forced me to quit I would get headaches from not playing, my eye started twitching uncontrolably, and I couldn't sleep. It was hard times....hard times...

I used to sit for hours playing StarCraft when I was younger, it has to be one of the best RTS games ever made.
Younger? I played it within past 2 - 3 years(and I turn 49 on Saturday). The best I ever played was Warcraft II. I still love that game over just about any others.

These days, I've started playing Runescape(grandson started me on it).

Few years ago, some of the people I worked with used to go home every night, eat supper and then we'd all logon and play Quake 2. Nothing like spending a couple of hours every night shooting people(fantasy) to relive stress. And we had some great times next day cussing each other out about what happened the night before.

We even borroowed a couple of servers a few times, set it up in a co-worker's basement, everyone brought their PC and we hooked everything together. We one time had 8 people packed in his basement blasting away at each other. Nothing like being able to call someone an SOB to their face(well, actually screamed at them :) ) when they killed you.

Runescape.com for free play, or upgrade to membership. I kill a lot of time playing that one. Or, if I'm in a shoot them down mode, Call of Duty2 or the CoD with United Offensive update. But I've been online playing since the days of Quake and Blood, and even (gasp) Zork!

I played Runescape for 10 minutes

Anyone ever played GunBound? Sure its full of cheaters and hackers now, but it was fun for a while.

Blizzard games in my opinion are the best games, diablo 2 exp i vegetated on that game for about 3years , one of the best gamesi ever played i suggest this game to all of you bothering to read this thread, starcraft also a great game i played for years. Now its a name game " guild wars" its a decent game. Socom3 online.... can beat that for some fps... but for rpg diablo2 expansion all the way....

Guild Wars seems to attract a lot of people because there is no monthly fee, but if you want any new contect you're going to have to fork over the cash for a new expansion every few months.

It all depends on whether or not you think you get your money's worth from a game to justify its monthly cost. Most games nowadays are $15 a month, which I think is a resonable price all things considered. City of Heroes even sends you a cheesy little comic book every month included in the subscription.

I play Lineage II, but my brother pays for that :p:

Online games I've played:
-Duke Nukem 3D couple years, Case's Ladder rank 17 out of 2000 was my best.
-Quake2 for more than a few years. DM, FFA, lithium, OSP Tourney, IGL, no team matches though... I'm colorblind, so just have to kill everyone lol
-Diablo2 & LoD couple years.
-Motor City Online couple years (its lifespan)
-Ultima Online from its beginning to a couple years.
-Unreal Tourney
-Q3

I'd like to try WoW ....looks awesome, but I can't see springing for a monthly fee, especially when single player games like Q4, FEAR, and Call of Duty 2, and NFS: Most Wanted, just came out.

Ah see, thats the difference between an online game and an MMO. Whats the maximum number of players that can be on one map? 75ish? In a game like WoW, CoH, or Lineage, its hundreds, even THOUSANDS at the same time. Lineage has a system where player clans can siege one of the 5 castles in the world, and own it for up to 2 weeks, and these battles have hundreds of people fighting each other at the same time. The reward for taking over a castle is well worth the effort, seeing as the leader of the clan that takes over the caslte becomes Lord of the land for 2 weeks  . You can even set the tax rate for the region you take over,

Oh, I don't plan on playing those new games online.....just single player. Balder's Gate ruined me for MMO's. The game played for more than a month and the ability to hit escape and leave the game within 1/2 a second...then come back to your savegame spot at your leisure was like a breath of fresh air compared to..... Ultima Online, where you have to make camp or find an Inn before you can log out. ...and if you were exploring it might not be easy to return to the same location. I just outgrew the MMO's I guess. Every one I've tried since then(AO, Everquest), has been a lesson in repetition with better graphics. Its different if you enjoy the social aspect, but I was just looking for a good immersive game.
