My last puter was a Dell, my next puter will be a Dell. I've called CS a few times and always gotten a human within a few minutes. I've yet to hang up without having my question answered.
You want hideous CS? Try Gateway or, gasp, Acer... The award for the worst CS I've ever encountered goes to Iomega though. Jeez those people are idiots..
Reef was trying to help me a few weeks back but I guess we lost base because that's when I first moved into the new house..... anyhoo.... I did a lot of researching and figured the problem. I thought the hard drive would b4e able to be hooked up, the OS installed and I'd be set. I couldn't get the PC to start up from the CD drive, it kept prompting for a floppy even after changing the sequence order in BIOS. After researching, come to find out there's some kind of floppy that should've came with the HD. Now problem, I thought I'd get what I needed online. Copied some of what I thought was what I needed... at least it said it was to a floppy, took it home and tried it all over..... nothing..... so I called Dell this morning and I know it's not the people on the phone's fault but it's killing me that I can use the PC yet and it's been months. I bought the HD so I would be able to work faster when I was at home and now it seems I can't work at all. *sigh* thanks for letting me get that out slip, it helped
I was just going to replace the one that I had now..... it was running pretty slow and now the OS is screwed up on it and the OS disk is scratched (waiting or a new one any day now). It's not like I've never replaced a HD or reformatted before.... BUT this is the first time I've had such a problem with it. For what it's worth, the HD is a Western Digital WD800.
Hey Doll, I was wondering what ever happened with that HD change over. I guess I know now. When you go back into the bios, does it still say that it is supose to boot up to CD?
hi Reef yeah, I changed the bios to boot from CD but it was still asking for the floppy on start up...... the weirdest thing...... I found out that whole Master/slave jumpers you were talking about and it's set to Master and all...... the weird part is that when I put the old HD in, it does in fact start from the CD drive...... I figured this was a HD thing so I searched around and found out I should've received software with it..... that being said, I figured I'd reformat the old HD and worry about all that later, talk to dell, and all that but when I started the reformat, it gets to a certain point, gets hung up and starts over...... I looked and there's a scratch on the CD.... I tried making a new OS cd from another PC, it looks for an asms file... says it's missing..... *sigh* so much has happened :thud:
Yup, sounds about right when you try to copy the CD or try to pull it off of another system. Since it is a Western digital, you may have to do a low level format on the disk. You will probably need this http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp#dlgtools Copy the DOS version to a disk and put that in when the system asks for it.

All I get when I call Dell is foreigners who sound like they need some lessons with English. Not to lesson other countries/cultures, but when I call a number for a product I bought in the U.S., I expect someone who can speak English. How can they help me when they cannot understand what I am saying? It makes it tough. Every time I have ever called them, I have been on the phone past midnight. Needless to say, I will only call Dell as a last resort.
