Anyone ever kept jerboas?

These are a nocturnal burrowing species, I wonder if they can be kept with the same type of bedding as gerbils and other rodents? Information is super scarce on them.

Ooops... looks like I was wrong. Jerboas are not closely related to gerbils. That said, gerbils are a burrowing species so for what it's worth, here's what I know about gerbils and burrowing: It's very important to provide them with deep bedding, otherwise they develop a behavior called "stereotyped digging" in which they incessantly scratch at the corners of the cage. They should not have any kind of aromatic wood chips or shavings because they are prone to respiratory infections, and it's best to stay clear of shavings/chips altogether. I used Carefresh (http://www.petco.com/product/3370/Carefresh-Natural-Pet-Bedding.aspx), which is made from wood, but it's more like paper than shavings. I kept my gerbils in a 10 gallon tank with a "topper" cage that was about the same size as the tank. I kept the tank almost completely filled with bedding so that they had plenty of room to burrow, and I kept their food and water up in the topper. Because of the burrows, I only changed the bedding once a month, but smell and cleanliness were never a problem.

Again, I don't know anything about jerboas specifically, but I hope that this is at least a little bit helpful.

Good luck!

Just read that owning Jerboas in the US without some kind of scientific permit is illegal, since they are supposed to be frequently smuggled from Africa. Makes me wonder how the pet store got their "Miniature Kangaroos..." Maybe it's only some species of Jerboa.
And yes, JPap, the one with the big head on You Tube looks really, really creepy. The other ones (except for the one with the dubbed over child's voice singing "Jesus Loves Me") are incredibly cute and not creepy at all.
