this woman at walmart said that the only thing wrong about puttin a dwarf puffer in a community freshwater tank was they were aggressive but i got a small one to see how he would do and the next thing i read about them was they need brackish water, now i feel really stupid for not knowing that so i try to bring him back and they wouldent take him

i think we should run the local wal mart over with a bulldozer....they made me feel so guilty but i guess it was half way my fault. any way i tryd to house it in a small bowl with brackish water but it got a bad case of white spot and died

In my opinion, the consumer just needs to do the research before buying any kind of animal from anywhere. If you don't like Walmart, don't shop there. I've seen good and bad Walmart fish. Just put some serious thought and study into what you buy.

Dwarf Puffers are FW.

www.pufferlist.com -Go to FW puffers, then go to Carinotetraodon travancoricus.

I've seen their tanks in horrible shape. Fish were gasping, stuck to filters, feeding off dead in the bottom...pretty atrocious stuff. This was at a Wal-mart location in Topeka.

I did an article on it if anyone is interested. A petition kindly asking them to STOP or to properly equip/train employees, or just be accountable, would be nice. As mentioned in the thread though, it does vary from place to place.

*edit*Another idea is to simply write a letter to your local fish retailers if you see things out of line. Typically, businesses are quick to respond if customers take the time to politely make a fuss about things.

some of you ppl might think that walmart is all good, and some LFS's are better, well ill tell you... the wall mart by me is the worst!
i one tank there were 50 yes 50 dead goldfish. and in the another all of the koi were either dead or dying. then there was a tank full if platys-at one time. what i saw were 3 or four still alive munching on their buddies that pushed up dasies before them. yea i know its gross. well im never going there again for anything!

I hate wal-mart more than any other store chain, and not just because they wantonly abuse fish...

I see all you guys complaining about Wal-Mart..You guys are an example of "PETA FREAKS!" The Wal-Marts near my place is not bad at all..You people have to realize, that the tanks in Wal-Mart are only a temporary place for the fishes until some people buy them just like any other fish store.
