Anyone from Oregon?

I grew up in that neighborhood, so...

I grew up in Reedsport, Florence, and a little town called Port Orford, so that be my stomping grounds.

I would say the Newport Aquarium (where Keiko the Orca was kept) is definitely worth seeing, give it a good 4-5 hour visit. Also there is the University Marine Science Labs, if you are interested in Pacific Northwest marine life.

Further north, in Tillamook there is an aircraft museum made from an old dirigible hangar, a cool choice as well.

For sand dune buggy/ATV choices, I would suggest the north side of Coos Bay/North Bend, before crossing over the BIG bridge into town, a place called Horsfall Beach. Very cool. Or just south of Reedsport - Winchester Bay, has three beaches awesome for sand dune buggy/ATV action.

Would be glad for a few more pointers for ya, depending on your budget and wants.

Outside of Coos Bay is a drive called the Sunset Highway, which heads out of a town called Charleston along some awesome rocky tidepool areas, and ends in a place called Shore Acres - a botanical garden that is pretty cool. The garden once belonged to a large mansion estate that is no longer there (burned to the ground long ago I think) but the gardens are maintained as a part of the parks system.

What's yer gig, what's yer gag? Be glad to give you all sorts of pointers for eat spots, etc., everywhere from Florence south to Port Orford.

I love Yachats! It's a small little community just north of Florence. If you're looking to escape people it is the place to go! If you have animals Yachats Inn will accept them and is reasonably priced and you can walk right out your door to a small park on the beach. If you don'thave animals, The Wayside has small little cottage type things (very rustic but nice) right on the ocean as well.

But if you're looking for excitement and entertainment you better go somewhere else!

You can rent crab traps and crab off the docks at both the South Jetty outside Florence and in Winchester Bay (south of Reedsport).

Hope you have fun!

Thanks a lot for the replies guys/gals.

Fishhead aric, i'll definitely look into the places you recommended. Dune buggying was one thing on the list of things to do, same as the aquarium

lareum2000, we're renting a cottage like place for one night, great about the animals, but the dogs have to stay home for this trip. The one you're talking about sounds great though!

And mikeo if i come across old pizza town, i'll drop in for sure lol

Between Florence and Reedsport used to be a seaplane rides setup as well. Dunno if it's still there but kinda cool operation. There are group dunebuggy adventures with large buggies that take a dozen or so people in a whack.

If you get down to Coos Bay, Horsfall Beach is where the New Carissa shipwreck was, and I believe some of the ship is still there to be seen.
