anyone have anythign against hex tanks?

I have a 33G hex front tank rather than a full hexagonal tank. I like it although it definately is a bit on the tall side. The extra height is making me really consider swimming levels of my fish when it comes to stocking. I think the hex front makes the aquarium stand out more. If you're uncertain about getting something with a nonstandard shape (really, if you're questioning doing anything nonstandard), I wouldn't bother doing it unless you had a good reason. The shape definitely -does- impact the viewing.

The relative lack of surface area compared to a rectangular tank of the same size definitely does affect your stocking choices. Plus, the more seals there are in the tank, the more likely it is that one of them will leak.

I think $100 sounds a little on the high side, unless the tank comes with some sweet equipment. Definitely try for $75 or less. Or, drive over to my house and buy my 55 off me. Click in my sig! :)

I"m in agreement with the others. My 5g hex is a pain to clean; my 44g pentagon is even worse--I always end up getting my underarms soaked!! It was a craiglslist special, 44g with stand and filter for $75.00. Now it has a crack in it somewhere--I lost some beautiful Taiwan Reef Malawi peacocks!!!
