AquAdvisor - software to help you stock your tanks!

Thanks for the offer. At the moment, its really experimental and a lot of messing around with the code, so I can't see how to split work in any easy manner other than for someone to test the application to see if the result looks realistic. If the application becomes stable enough and systematic enough, then it will probably be possible to split work...
I'm afraid I'd be no help with programming---front end web coding (xhtml/css) is as far as I go---and I don't think I have the experience to evaluate the results, but if there were any sort of data gathering/clean-up or other non-programing tasks, or if you want help setting up a website, let me know! I just checked and aquadvisor.com is available. This could really go places, so I'd recommend you grab it!

Let me think if there's a way to split the work. :)

Yes I checked that name before I named this application. I do intend to grab it. :)

Hi guys,

Here's the new version (v0.2). Since the last version, following features have been implemented:

  • More fishes in DB. (53 right now)
  • Further refined analysis calculations.
  • Some error handling.
  • Fixed some "bugs" in fish DB entries.
  • Tank size is now saved in the registry. When application opens, it will use the last saved dimension.
  • "Remove" button now works.
  • Filter field has been added to help search for the right species quickly.
  • Info window has been added to display additional info about the selected species.
  • Displays warning if selected species is too big for the given tank.
  • Displays warning if user selects less than minimum recommended number of species.

I intend to look into the followings in the future:

- Aggression compatibility
- Biotope compatibility
- Diet compatibility
- Temperature compatibility
- Water chemistry compatibility
- Temperature compatibility

That's all I can think of for now...

Absolutely amazing.

Needs more fish though, so far I can only enter less than half of the fish in my tank into the overall equation.

Here is a site to help you...

http://www.thinkfish.co.uk/

click on community creator on the left hand column to help get an idea, or use the fish database instead.

I will look forward to the next installment of your great program .

Thanks. :)

As you know there are rather large number of species that are available on the market. Which ones do you have that are missing from the current list? Perhaps I can add those first.

That is a nice site. It does sort of what I am trying to build but I can see there are limitations - especially in how they determine stock levels. But its a useful site for me to get some idea what can be done...

Thanks for the link! :D

I can see a potential for using this program. Sorry I no longer code. Been too long and I never learned C.

You show a pleco as being peaceful and if you qualify the type it may be more accurate. A full grown common is anything but. Serpae tetras are semi-aggressive as well and belong with the likes of tiger barbs and blackskirt tetras. None of those make for good community fish but do very well in a semi-ag tank.

Good luck and keep up the good work!

yhbae, I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that there is a way to compile a mac version within the .NET Studio (if that is what you are using). Here is a link I stumbled across if this helps:

http://mac.sillydog.org/dev/visual_studio.php

I'm also a recent computer programmer graduate, unfortunately I never learned C# but if you need any help with logistics, or ideas, please feel free to PM me or ask on the board, I will check frequently.

I was also curious as to where you store your information, this may be more work, but if you get a lot more fish info, it may be beneficial to make it database driven, either through the web, or using SQL server (you can use the free express version ;))
