Ok thanks, but a dwarf gourami could be kept in a five gallon, so it doesnt matter whether it is a ten tall or not. I didnt know how big a ten gallon is so i put in trandom figures until it came to that. I don't have a ten gallon yo see
Haha I guess that would be another debate - whether dwarf gourami can be raised in 5g tank or not.
On another note, I just finished implementing a way to select pre-determined common tank sizes so that you don't have to know the dimension of each tanks that you don't own. In this case, just select 10g and it will fill in the dimensions for you.

Just out of curiosity, what size is your tank? Is that a really tall 3x1ft tank or is it a 4x1ft tank? May be it is an 18inch deep tank (i.e. 45g breeder tank)?
Since there will always be debate over the needs, aggression levels, etc. of different fish and the level of stocking that is acceptable, would it be easier, in the long, run to allow users to customize that information? Perhaps that would also pave the way for people to enter their own information for species that you have not included, so they can do their own research instead of pestering you. If people could then exchange "fish files," you'd have a pretty awesome, flexible program that encouraged the development of a whole community of people to expand it.

Don't hold your breath yet - its far from being ready but it sort of shows you how messed up my brain is these days. Its a simple prototype really. I've been writing this in my spare time (which I seriously lack to begin with!) and I have not written an application for 9 years. I wrote this in a language I never tried before either... LOL.

It basically allows you to specify your tank dimension, select number of fishes for each species and it will tell you how much stocking room you have left. I only have 13 fishes in the list but obviously I can expand that further if the concept is sound.
Basically I try to suggest stock levels based on the surface area of water, size of species at adult stage, and what I call "bio-factor". This defines how dirty each species are in relation to their size. Obviously Plecos take the prize here!
Many many things are not taken into account but I hope I can tackle those as well, such as aggression factors and water chemistry compatibility factors.
