AquAdvisor - software to help you stock your tanks!

  • v0.4 - Published on Mar 21, 2009 with the following new features:
    • Switched to MSI based install. It will create a desktop icon and will also upgrade from an older version gracefully (I hope!)
    • More fishes in DB. (130 now)
    • Further refined analysis calculations.
    • Added a filter checkbox for displaying only the compatible species by your tank size.
    • Ability to select units for Tank dimension, volume and temperature.
    • Couple of shrimps have been added into DB.
    • Added dimensions for 3 bowfront tanks. (26g, 36g and 46g)

Great! Installed smoothly.

Some observations:

  1. It installs in a different location than that of v0.3, so I had to uninstall v0.3 first, otherwise I'd have two instances of the app in my PC.
  2. No shortcuts are placed in the Start Menu although there is now a desktop shortcut. [It's easy to move the shortcut anyway, but still...]
  3. The shortcut created has the "find location" button disabled. [Not many users access the shortcut properties, so this is no big deal.]
These having been said, I noticed that your database includes the silver hatchetfish but not the marbled hatchetfish. Can you add this please?

I'm looking forward to v0.5 to see if the setup file would simply upgrade the existing installation.

Great work!

This is due to switching to MSI based install. Once switched though, it should recognize previous MSI based installs and allow upgrades.

Still learning how to use MSI functions. :) Took me at least half an hour to figure out how to place an icon on the desktop. :D Will address these soon.

Consider it done. :)

Mee too!

Good stuff amigo, when I first ran the program after installing it, it gave me an error with an option to ignore. Something to do with an invalid integer or something along those lines, I meant to jot it down but I was hoping it would be persistent or saved to the log files. In any case I ignored the error and it seems to be running fine.

Seems like a great program, very intuitive and user friendly, good UI and all of that goodness. Only modifications I'd recommend is the ability to change the amount of each fish that have been added to your tank without removing and re-adding.

Otherwise, I like it a lot, plus it alerted me that harlequins and tiger barbs don't get along. Your program may have saved some fish from being pestered. I look forward to your next iteration. Thanks again!:thm:

If you ever encounter that error again, let me know please. :)

Not ideal, but you can select the same species again with a different quantity, then add. No need to remove. Still, I agree its better to do it on the right side control. Too lazy to learn all methods for that control. :D

Excellent.
