What hours should i keep my flourescant on?

I have heard lights off at night and I have heard lights on all the time?

How many watts is your light?
What does your tank contain in regards to plants?
8-12 hrs a day should be enough. Fish need rest 2

10 gallon tank
standard light for ten gallon (unaware of wattage)

10 hours maximum only for me. Fish need rest especially at night and some are rather nocturnal appearing in the dark only.

What about blue or red LED lights? Does that effect the fish at all?

nope, in fact they can benefit in certain cases

Good to know...cause i just got 2 blue lights a few days back and I would be upset if they turned out to be a bad thing for my tank

yea, i have my lighting hoods on a timer so that their lighting cycle is kept regular. You can get a cheap one outlet timer at walmart or lowes for a few dollars.

I have a cheap one from home depot, the "manual" one and also a corallife strip for alternating day/moon lights...kinda expensive though
