I've used a Fluval canister(304) in the past and I can honestly say that I wasn't too impressed with it. It was prone to small leaks around the seals and was a PITA to prime. Other than that, it did a fine job of actually filtering the water. I ended up replacing it with an Eheim Pro 2026...one of the best aquarium purchases I ever made. Once you've owned and operated an Eheim for any length of time, it's really hard to go back to any other canister. I do give mad props to the HOT Magnum 250, however...what a great little filter.
