Are saltwater aquariums harder to take care of

You're not making any sense--live rock isn't the only option for biological filtration in a saltwater setup, nor is a cleanup crew required. And heck, a pleco is a ridiculous cleaner in a FW setup--size and adult food preferences alone disqualify them from most tanks. RO water is needed in some cases for either, but not mandatory for SW.

This is silly.

Not making any sense huh? You need to have the bacteria in saltwater tanks and that comes from live rock. Whats your alternative for ro water? Tap. God I hope not cause the amount of metals that will build up over time is outrageous.

OG, I hope you havnt been giving this out as advice.

I have to agree with OG...this thread has been made 'rediculous.' Why don't you guys pull out your tape measures and see who has the biggest...

Why is it "ridiculous" because its a debate and an educated or educational one at that?

It's not a debate--it's you thumping your chest. You're repeating 'new myths'--that unsubstantiated 'gospel' that seems to be inundating the hobby these days.

Bacteria can be introduced, and happily colonize, a variety of media, with or without live rock. As for tap--it depends on the source. Some tapwater is just peachy for SW, and there are a variety of filtration options that will reduce metals without using RO.

Mine is much bigger. There is no question there. Don't even worry about the tape measure.

You all are trying to compare apples to oranges. It will never fly so just drop it.

Unsubstantiated huh? I thought you have been doing your :read:. All of the scientific material is there to back it up. The bacteria needed for saltwater is not the same as the bacteria needed in freshwater. It is not something that occurs naturally without being introduced via an outside source. Sure there are tap water out there that is ok and I am sure there are people out there that cant get cable where they live too but its few far and inbetween.
