Other nations restrict or prohibit possession of Asian arowanas; for example, the United States has listed this species under the Endangered Species Act, and therefore it cannot be possessed in that country without a permit.
Piranhas are legal in some states like here though. Pehaps because they would not survive low temperature during winter time.
I used to think that... Until I saw pictures of a 13" RB Piranha pulled out of Baldwin Lake (Randolph county, IL - it's a lake heated year-'round by a coal burning power plant). That lake has an overflow into the Kaskaskia river, so it's possible that one could get into the river and head south. That's all we need - New Orleans tourists killed by Piranhas during Mardi Gras...

It's such a bummer that theres all these irresponcible people out there dumping unwanted fish into rivers.Luckily I live in Canada so theres no problem with pirahnas up here.![]()
