Ashley's "mini" fish room log

Thanks for all the encouragement!!!

I thought about maybe hooking everything up with a sump, but I decided against it as I will probably take care of ill fish. With everybody having separate water there's no chance of contamination.

I do not have any plans of adding substrate, so I will just have floating plants and those that attach to rocks.

However, since I have about 2 watts per gallon, I am tempted to maybe fully plant a couple. I am considering the idea of sinking some tupperware containers full of gravel and putting plants in them. This would eliminate the need to do hardcore gravel vacs. I can just syringe up the waste on the bare bottom parts of the tank, and remove the containers to wash out the gravel in them.

Here's the list of plants that I have: anarchis*, hornwort*, Brazillian pennywort*, java fern*, java moss*, duckweed, crypt wendtii red*, anubias nana and broadleaf, marimo balls, onion plants, 2 kinds of rotala...maybe other stuff lol. *=plants I have excess of

(And @BK the orange powercords I've found are 6 dollars. I only bought 1 and wired the one light, for hopes of finding cheaper ones....or "borrowing" a suitable cord from a "borrowed" appliance. I have to go buy zip ties from a hardware store, so I'll price stuff out. Do you think about half a centimeter is enough distance between the light bulb and the ziptie? I was going to wrap the zipties around the whole fixture so they wont go anywhere....but there isn't much space between the light and the fixture)

Looks good, but I'm nervous. What is the weight rating on those shelves? They look plastic.

about 90lbs per shelf with 2x5.5g tanks.. shes fine :grinyes:

She should be. i hope. I wouldn't do it. If I did I'd secure it to the wall at the very least. 2 5.5g tanks weighs 93.5 lbs. 3 lbs over the weight rating you quoted. 5 shelves makes her 15 lbs over total rating. And that's just the water. If she doesn't put anything else in there like gravel, sands, rocks, decor, filtration, fish just to name a few, then she'll be just fine.

Unless of course I miss read something and it's the 150 lb per shelf rating quoted above then forget everything I just said.

I'd still secure it to the wall in any case. Not a good idea to have that much weight elevated on such a small footprint. Maybe ok, but better safe than sorry.
