hi there, just want to share some photos of a project i've been working on over the last weekend. i've never worked with so many chinese bamboos before, will have to figure out how to trim these down when the shoots start growing toward the light fixture. all in all, i'm happy with the results. and these have not come without inspiration... i've improvised an idea by Oliver Knott, who's a brilliant aquascapist. his tank which got me started can be seen here.

thanks grae. i use the Canon 300D with a 17-40 wide angle lens. just minor post-processing with curve adjustments and slight sharpening.

i really hope the bamboo will work out. they seem to compliment the giant hygros really well. now all i need in there is fish! maybe a vibrant pair of japanese ryukins to tie in with the theme, have always loved those fish.
 
Proof that aquascaping is an art! Great work! I'm honestly impressed, and that takes a lot these days! lol As for fish, some long fin white cloud mountain fish would look awesome if you can find them! One question though, how well does bamboo keep when submerged?

Also, thank you for giving credit to the inspiration. That showed excellent character. *Two thumbs up!

Bamboo has been growing out of the creek behind my uncle's house for as long as I can remember.... so I'd say it keeps pretty well ;) As long as it's live and growing, it should last a long time with proper trimmings. If it's dead, it needs to be sealed with some type of varnish. Remember why people call bamboo a weed... because it grows anywhere and grows too much.

nvision: that's beautiful! It's a break from the standard biotype aquascaping... NICE!
 
My wife has been maintaining a mini bamboo in a flower jar for months. It's a terrestrial species commonly sold in flower shops. I wonder if it is the same kind of bamboo in the picture shown. It's a great idea to use them in fish tank because they seem to thrive in low indoor light environment and don't need dirt to grow. My question is whether they are permanent.
 
Hmmm..... Great stuff - really gorgeous - I'm wondering also about fish that are plant eaters?

Would love to try this but my tinfoil barbs eat everything I've ever put in there! One guy at the LFS told me they wouldn't be able to eat Amazon sword as it is too tuff - but guess what - it only took them overnight to devour about $10 worth!
