Do these timers work with fish tank (lights) that have to be turned on by "Pushing the button" on the hood ?

I hope I am not confusing anyone.

thanks

thanks. I just wasnt for sure they would work, because my hood only has the PUSH BUTTON turn on, and not actually a "on/off" switch.

thanks

They absolutely work with push button types. Well at least mine. Just leave the switch on.

switch is a switch. An on and an off. Doesn't matter its its a push button or a toggle. Unless its a relay which is a different story altogether.

Actually, lights that don't have an electronic ballast often don't work with a timer. If you turn the light on, unplug it, then plug it back in, the switch is still on but the light doesn't come back on. You have to push the button twice - once to turn the switch off and once to turn it back on. Holding in the "on" switch is the only time the fluorescent starter is activated.

You should test your lights by unplugging them to be sure.

I've ditched the $16 digitals and went to $5 Wal-Mart mechanicals; digitals were only set for one time, mechanicals I can set for multiple time frames (have my lights on 8-12, then 4-midnight)

Only problem is the timing is not exact; lights come on 15 minutes or so after the set time, but thats a small thing in the whole Scheme of the Universe.

Do notice that one of my light strips is slower than the others to turn on; probably due to the ballast it is using.

FWIW, I use power strips for my power distribution; one master that the others are plugged into (via timer for the light strip), and one for heaters and other for filters. Makes it easy to turn off one system. Plugs are labeled as to which item it is (got bored one day). Works for me!
