i want to breed some bettas but.... was just wondering how mucch fry you usually get and is there more girls than boys? and ussually at the end how many will be left?....and how long would it take them to grow?

Do you have other fish you could feed some of the fry to? You could get a **** load.

i have other fish...yes but....poor things....

You usually have a pair for just breeding. One male and one female. If you want to breed them and get fry you will need a breeding tank (5G-10G) and seperate tanks for the male and female (2.5G and up, you have a 1G but not recommended). The female and male are only placed together when they mate. The amount of fry depends on many factors.

Here is a site with good info:

yeah i do but i want to try to keep most of them

sorry didn't mean to double post....... i have a 10 gallon that i was going to split down the middle for the male to see her while he makes the nest and everything and then stick her in and when he becomes agressive right after they lay the eggs i was going to put hewr back in in her side when the babies become free swimming i was going to take the male out and then when the babies are big i was just going to put the male back in and repeat everything....hehehe so then they will usually like eachother if i have 1 girl?

If you want to keep them be prepared to seperate them. You will need to seperate the males after a certain period of time and usually the females can be housed together, but I wouldn't count on it. Sometimes the females can be just as picky as the males :) It all depends upon the individual.

If you have a split tank that might cause some problems. The male might be very territorial about his space and beat up the female if you decide to place her there. Its why you usually want an unfamilar tank for them to meet. It equals the playing field a bit. You could try it, but I would monitor very closely. Its actually quite hard to pair up bettas. You can usually up your chances by buying a pair from a breeder.
