Baby Otto Pics!!

you're right. plus, many of those fish are caught using unhealthy methods (possibly poisons). that's why so many otos die as soon as we bring them home :( they were already weak.
after hearing that, i'm never going to get otos again unless I know they're captive bred. i'm strongly opposed to keeping wild caught fish.

i have heard that otos have never been sucessfully PURPOSFULLY bred in captivity, but if you have the right conditions and they are happy and healthy, then they have been known to breed on their own.

very adorable picture!

I will also offer you "props" on breeding such a difficult fish. I'll put it this way, your tank looks excellent, your fish look excellent, and your "hard to breed fish" are spawning! That really says it all! Great job, and if you get the chance write an article about your experience with breeding them, even if you aren't sure what you did right. If you list all your specific water parameters and your maintenance schedule, along with stocking and feeding regimen, that should make a very impressive article to make a sticky possibly with. I know that I would take notes from it.

The truth is that none of us "breed" our fish, but instead we place them in ideal surroundings and they do what comes naturally. So if you can give us what your "natural surroundings" are, then we have a heads-up on what to aim for. Thanks for the awesome pics and your input so far. By the way, I just wanted to say that your picture taking skills seem to be very good as well! Very good shots of your fish!

Givin the proper conditions alot of fish will spawn in a tank. Congrats. I kept my tank at the best conditions possible awhile back when I had Panda Corys. I read that they are hard to breed but mine did breed.

Nice work....congratulations! And your tank is gorgeous....I may add 3 otos when my 10g is planted...today I hope.

Congratulations Bunny!
Yeah, you have a great tank there! From what I've read ottos aren't that hard to breed, and they like to lay their eggs on lush greenery. They're not big egg layers, instead dropping a few at a time on leaves. Keep up the good work at keeping your fishies VERY happy!
Take care,
Mary.
