bad smell

do you smell it strong when you smell the suface or is it near the aquarium? ive had problems in the past of getting mold or something on the walls near the aquarium and behing the tank. it really smelled freaky.

If thats it you have a big problem. Dry wall is messy, and can be dangerous if its growing mold. All you have to do is push on it. If you push it in, you have a problem.
 
any water splashing anywhere? or spilled occassionally?
It sounds too strong to be normal IMO, and I am wonderring if you are growing a big ole batch of mildew somewhere around your tank. Carpet?
you can also buy activated carbon in pet stores.
what sort of filter do you have?

nah it was just patches of gray blue fuzzy stuf . it smelled like my grannie (sorry grannie)but it didnt destroy the dry wall. i bleached the hell out of that wall and everything was fine
 
I have no idea what the other peeps are talking about but get carbon for your filer. You can buy it at any lfs. I have always used it, and never had a smelly fish tank. :thm:
